I just went to New York and I got an unlimited rides metro card. Mainly because I wanted to keep the card as a souvenir. Next time I go I’ll likely just use OMNY especially considering they’ve fixed the weekly cap to start on the first tap rather than Monday to Sunday. Your channel helped my family and I so much!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS!!! I’m leaving Nyc tomorrow but with your guides it was just so easy to move around the city using the subway!!! I tried using the bus but we just made like 3 stops until our driver said the bus won’t longer be going to the final destination (east river) and luckily dropped us all off outside of a subway station (i think it was a A or 1 line subway station) guess i suppose that doesn’t happen quite often? However, after that i didn’t moved on the bus because the subway was pretty much the best way to come back to the place where ive been staying at. Thank you so so much! You are truly the best!

Although if it was me I would prefer the OMNY card as I just tap it on the reader, whereas the MetroCard you have to swipe. If you do it incorrectly you either waste $2.75 or have to wait to try again if you have unlimited

Last I tried, which admittedly was years ago, the machines at AirTrain stations don’t sell Unlimited ride cards, nor can you add the cost of an Unlimited card to a card you buy at an AirTrain station machine. AirTrain machine cards are coded by the Port Authority and the Unlimited cards are coded by the MTA. Solution is to buy an Unlimited card from a vendor at the station, and add the $8.25 AirTrain fee to it.

Nirvana is to have a transit card that goes into an Apple or Google wallet which some cities support now though some seem to require use of their own apps I'm sure not for long. It sounds like for the subway, just setting your default payment method on your ewallet and tapping would work since it accepts tap-to-pay.

@@alistairt7544 Tomorrow im leaving nyc, I’m not asian however i can tell you about my experience and a little more that could be useful for you and your family. I came with my dad and all I can say is you will be safe as long as you mind your business. If it makes you feel safer, stay with your parents near the doors and If you dont feel safe dont hesitate to leave that car and get on to another. We did have some freaks getting on the train BUT just ignore them. Do not make eye contact with them. It’s okay. I’m having that exact same feeling as you since tomorrow I will be going the JFK by train as well but during these days we have used the train at least 20 times (no kiding) and only 2 of them had some freaks hoping on and leaving afterwards. Some people will also get on the train and start playing music and dance or play songs or sell candies (mostly afroamericans and latinos) but do not worry about these people, they are just doing some honest hustle. However just keep calm and do not worry about it. Specially if you will be staying in manhattan it will be okay, since theres a ton of people in every train. I also want to add, I took during this trip the A and 1 line and i saw a lot of asians, latinos, afroamericans, caucasians, etc., in most stations… it was awesome lol like a mix of everything. So dont worry about it. Good luck on your trip and have a good time with your parents!!!
