Great job! Lots of flavors in one bite. Suggestion: I would put the bacon wrapped hot dogs and onions on a baking tray in the oven and bake them. Ideally the bacon should be cooked a lot more so it's not so pale, with more fat cooked off, it will get darker and it will shrink tight to the hot dog. Brings out a lot more of the bacon flavor and it will be chewier. Easier to cook too! ☺️

Really, to do the bacon right, you need to torch them after baking or just cook them in an air fryer. It will just be varying levels of soggy otherwise.
@BTinSF

Yeah, the bacon did look undercooked to me too. But the hot dog vendors around here do grill them so it can be done though it's probably easier to use an air fryer. Also it's hard for me to believe they have guacamole in NZ but not actual avocados. Avocado slices would be more authentic.

I love all of her cooking videos, she makes it fun and she is very very talented for her younger age! Love you New Zealand Fam, greetings from Nebraska, home of the "Runza", but I have much better recipes that were passed through the generations when my family immigrated to USA. I know the Nebraska "official food" does not sound too appealing, but if made right and with good seasonings depending on taste, they are awesome. I like mine with very peppery ground beef, saurkraut, and a just a slice of cheese, but the pastry/dough is SO important in making it all work. Bless you all!

THAT’S what I’m talking bout!! GREAT JOB!!! The sonoran hotdog was brought to Tucson from Sonora, Mexico. We LOVE them too!! Arizona was once PART of the State of Sonora. When I make them I use “pico de gallo” instead of hot sause or “salsa” and chopped tomatos. Pico de Gallo literally means “peck of rooster” referring to the bite from the chilies 🌶️ in it. It is made with chopped tomatoes, onions, chilies 🌶️, cilantro and lime juice (and sometimes avacados). I use avacado oil to kind of coat it all and blend it.

Sonora is a province in northern Mexico. The Sonoran Desert extends through Sonora & southern AZ. That's where you will find the rare saguaro cactus - the one that looks like a bandit with its arms up! The deserts bloom around February-March - incredibly beautiful! Anzo-Borrego desert in southern California, near Salton Sea, is another one that blooms beautifully, and same with Joshua Tree, a fabulous national park in California, not far from Palm Springs/Palm Desert (great cities!). Unfortunately, cactus-blooming season is quite short.

Makes sense that you would think of Mexico when you think of this food, as it originated in Hermosillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora. It's a fairly recent food though, originating in the late 1980's. Typically the dish isn't served with a traditional hotdog bun, they're served with a bolillo-style bun which is more open to accommodate all the toppings. Never heard of using refried beans though, most come with pinto beans and salsa.

AZ is my home. the Sonoran desert is in Mexico California and Arizona. all well known for Mexican food. AZ is bordered by Mexico on the south side of the state...all the way across. I live almost on that border, the mountain range called the Huachuca mountains separates my home from Mexico. when I use bacon as a wrap for hot dogs I either cook it part way before wrapping my hot dogs or I wrap them then broil in the oven til the bacon becomes a bit crispy but not so crunchy it breaks into crumbs when u bite into it. that way the hot dogs dont get overcooked while the bacon is undercooked.

I am living in Arizona and have had a number ( not saying how many) but I have never had a Sonoran hot dog topped with mayo, ketchup, and mustard...it is usually topped with different ingredients than those. Diced onions but light scattered, something similar but not quite nacho cheese, and Pico de gallo ( pronounced Pico de guyo). Pico de Gallo is fantastic...I tried to follow a recipe for it when first moving here many yrs ago, but found my own method best. Finely chop some jalapeños, little bit bigger chop tomatoes, ( I always stir after each ingredient, and smell it too) the dice onion approximately the same size as the tomato, (that is why you don't really need 1/2 a chopped onion because of the pico) then add some chopped cilantro ( some people don't like it, others like my brother, it was an aqired taste, my self I love it and put it on most everything) then lime juice. The closest o can co.e to a recipe is 3-5 Finely diced jalapeños (depending on how long they are) 3-4 diced Roma tomatoes, or 2-3 medium tomatoes, approximately 1/2 of a medium onion chopped, may 1/3 ob a bunch of cilantro chopped ( hoe I chop my cilantro is roll it across the cutting board to get the leaves gathered then I cut off the end of the stems, and use some of the stems 1/3, and some of the leaves1/3, juice of 3-5 key limes ( you can get much mire juice from a key lime which is smaller than normal limes and they have a better flavor) and instead of mayo try the squirter thing with sour cream and don't forget the nacho type cheese

When wrapping the bacon to cook it, you can put a toothpick to hold it to the "Hotdog". Then take the toothpick off after as it will not need it anymore as the bacon has stuck to the hotdog. Wow, we were just out grocery shopping for the ingredients to make these hot dogs for dinner, then I open up YT and see this video. What a coincidence! Well done darling, as always!

When I was growing up (here in Pennsylvania) my Mom used to slit the dog, stuff in some cheese , then wrap in a bit of bacon, before broiling.... a bit simpler.

I'm from Tempe, AZ, which is located in the Sonoran Desert. Although I'm in Missouri now, Arizona will always be my home. You absolutely need to visit there when you come to the U.S.

Hi! I am from Indiana and was happy to see a follower share some Hoosier hospitality! A Hoosier is an Indiana resident, no one really knows how the name came to be - there are several stories, but no one knows for sure. The jot dogs look and sound amazing, I may have to try them sometime soon. You did wonderfully with the video, so fun to watch! I enjoy all the videos, though lol! Take care!

@@tray488 the one I remember most is someone had their ear cut off (don't remember the reasoning behind that! ) and someone saw the ear and asked "Whose ear?".

Yay you did Arizona! Nice job on making the dogs! If you ever visit, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Route 66, and the food are things to consider! Keep up the good work.

I worked a tournament for two weeks in Los Mochis, Mexico....the final game of the night always ended late. I could have walked down to the team hotel for some sort of meal but thankfully for me, right across the street was a cart, open to the wee hours of the morning, selling these wonderful Sonoran dogs. It was a wonderful two weeks :)

Good job!! Eating will be easier if you dice the tomato and onion quite small and it's really tasty if you cook it til the bacon is crispy

Try heating your pan first with the oil, then add your ingredients, your food will cook better and be less greasy. Your bacon needs to be cooked just a little bit more. Try with shredded cheese on top of the dog. Very yummy

I'm from Arizona. I'm been to Tucson and was going try one. But I don't like mayo. 😍 much love from Arizona. You guy need to try Native American fry bread.. FUN FACT: Arizona is not just a desert. Northern Arizona has pine trees 🌲 and snow ❄️.

I'm from Michigan. My mom used to make us similar hot dogs, but she would cut a slit in the hot dog length wise, put in a slice of american cheese and then wrap it in bacon and cook it in the oven. Yummmmm you could add whatever you wanted to.
