Ran the fastest 40 yard dash time ever recorded (even now) at 1.88 meters tall and 105kg body weight. The last three years, he was leading the decathlon by such large margins that he didn't even have to run the final event, the 1500m, which he hated. But because he was so powerful the force of him pulling his leg away sheared his hip joint. He had it replaced and returned to baseball but he was never Super Bo after that. Super Bo was a cartoon. He did commercials where the tag line was "Bo knows..." Like he knew how to do everything. He was a phenomenon. AND he was humble and nice. Rare to see in a talent like that. He was one of the greatest college athletes of all time, but his two-sport pro career was cut tragically short so nobody knows just how incredible he could have been. In the first clip it shows Deion Sanders who is the only other athlete I'm aware of to actively play in MLB and NFL. The greatest athlete though, in my opinion, was actually a member of the Harlem Globe Trotter's named Meadowlark Lemon. Guinness Book of World Records defines a professional athlete as someone who is paid to compete in a sport. If I remember correctly, he holds the record for 9,994 professional games that he was paid to compete in. Since he never tried to get into the NBA, he's often overlooked and forgotten about. I will admit to my bias though; I had the honor of meeting him in the late 70's when he was still actively playing.

Bo's injury was devastating. He sheared the ball joint off his femur and the ball stayed in his hip socket. He was able to this cause of when the start and ending times of each sport. Now take covid-19 out the mix. The NFL regular season starts at begin of September and runs 17 weeks to January then 4 weeks of playoffs ending with super bowl in February. MLB regular season starts mid march until the end of September 162 games then playoffs for 3 weeks then world series for 7 games ending in November. so as long your team didn't make the playoffs he could do this.

Courtney, here's a little background on Bo's career. You mentioned that this looked like a college deal where he was playing two sports at the same time. Well, in reality, he did play both baseball and football in college at Auburn University from 1985 to 1987. He really wasn't interested in professional football at first, but the coach of the then L.A. Raiders expressed a liking to Bo, so he was drafted by the Raiders in 1987. There was some shenanigans by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach prior to that, but we won't go into that here. But Bo loved baseball so much that he was signed with the Kansas City Royals at the same time, and the Raiders let him play the full season with the Royals and then join up with the Raiders when he could. This lasted up until a play-off game in 1991 when he suffered a dislocated hip injury as you saw there, and he was forced to retire from sports after that due to an injury to his blood flow there when he tried resetting his hip on the field there. But as someone who grew up in the 80s...these were my high school years actually (1987-1991) and I can just remember, he was one of the most popular players at that time. He was featured in the old Nintendo football game Techmo Bowl, and all you had to do was just run him straight up the middle. He was a beast, before there was today's Beast Mode. Here's a wikipedia article on his career. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Jackson?wprov=sfla1

Bo Jackson is the greatest athlete that I've ever seen. A lot of pro athletes were outstanding at more than 1 sport. For example, Lebron James and Allen Iverson both also played football in high school and were really good but very few have continued to play long enough or were good enough to get to play multiple sports professionally. Baseball and football seasons overlap a bit so Bo would complete the full baseball season and then immediately go to play in the NFL as soon as MLB season concluded
