NEW ZEALAND SPRINTCAR GRAND PRIX.
(Video Content Below)
What a day, what a night and what a great wait for a fantastic line up of Sprintcars, all gearing up not only for the NZ Grand Prix but also the big event, the New Zealand Sprintcar Championship to be held at Ruapuna Speedway in Christchurch, but here on a glorious Central Otago Day, many packed around the arena at Central Motor Speedway located in Central Otago, the town of Cromwell and holy hecker, were we in for a great spectacle of Sprintcar action.
Many, many years of being a circuit racer fan, where racing is on the seal, around a very long circuit, the novelty of that has worn so thin, i think i am now dedicated to Speedway with 99.8% accuracy.. Reason being, speedway has it all, it has colossal speed, it has close racing in most classes, it has a great atmosphere and best of all, even though i do many k's on foot, with camera in hand, you can park your backside trackside and see the whole race right before your eyes.
But enough of that, lets get down and dirty, lets sit back and see some fantastic Sprintcar action and from the drop of the first flag, till the end, it was balls to the wall with full on racing right throughout the night.
Having only introduced myself in the last couple years to Sprintcars, have seen many dam good drivers and hard assed racing but tonight was the night, some of the names i hear from a great show "Methanol Madness" were also in the New Zealand Grand Prix and was looking forward to see these lads get up and go.
With a couple lads from the North Island and another great driver from USA, Jonathan Allard which gave us two very dam good American drivers, with the other being the very young Joel Myers Jr. who showed some incredible speed in his first couple outings, especially on the 30th December where he had eyes fixed to the flying 46C, we all knew this was going to be action a plenty and with the likes of Jamie Duff, Steve Duff, Matt Honeywell just too name a few, the big 25 Lap Final was going to be a ripper.
With 29 drivers on the program, it was unfortunate that this didnt make 30 with the likes of Dean Millers 55T.
Im certain if he could, he would have been in the line up, but due to recent incident, was unable to make it for the NZ Grand Prix so thoughts head Deanos way and great to see recovery is looking well and hopefully be back in the seat in the very near future.
This would be one of the longest videos i have done with Sprintcars but worth ever pain staking minute i spend editing.
Heres a run down on whats in it.
