Newcastle had an earthquake in 1989. The city centre and some of the adjoining areas were closed down. The residents all started shopping at the big shopping centres in other suburbs and (just my thinking) didn’t return to shop in Newcastle city centre. Newcastle now appears to have a busy night life and there is the advantage of not very many traffic jams. Very easy to get around. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
