Thanks man! That's what this channel is all about. Flying in a circle is not a "review", it's an advertisement. Products can't be truly reviewed unless their potential is explored. Airplanes do more than fly in big circles - models like this are capable of a lot of maneuvers and people who choose to review them should at least be able to demonstrate those maneuvers in order to legitimately call it a review instead of product placement.

Do you think a 450 mAh battery would shift the CG more favorably? Would add weight to an already heavy bird, but might balance and stabilize a few 3D maneuvers? And the extra flight time is always welcomed. Great flyin as usual Jon!

Best flying I have seen of one of these. I really wanted one but its got a lot criticism on RC Groups which put me off. I was hoping it would be a good slow flier like the full size X but some people are saying this is not a STOL plane because it flies heavy. This is a shame if its true because the principle of the full size X is shorter span but longer chord to give the best of both worlds but having said that, you flew it fine.
@TwoBrosRC
2 жыл бұрын
One thing you'll learn quickly as you progress in aviation is that RC Groups is not the end-all, be-all of everything. A lot of people there don't know what they don't know. If I'd listened to RCG when people told me the Viper 90mm couldn't high alpha, my channel intro wouldn't be the Viper 90mm performing high alpha. ;) The only way to truly find out for yourself is to fly the model and see what it's capable of. I knew going into it that it would be heavy for its size, but it flies fine when you modify it a little and use the flaperons to assist with harriers and max out control throws. It's a good little model that just requires some awareness of how airplanes fly at any scale. If you're flying it slow without enough throttle or you're yanking it around in high-G maneuvers, it'll stall. Any airplane will unless the wing loading is so light that it can just float forever.

@@TwoBrosRC I thought the same thing until I flew it, it will surprise you for sure. I have the 1400mm from FMS and I love it but I think that’s more of the looks that got me with that plane. There’s just something about a biplane that looks amazing in the sky. I thought I remembered you having the 1400 and a battery eject problem but can’t remember for sure if that was you. Either way keep it up I enjoy all your videos, I just wish I had that IX20 so I could follow the programming videos a bit easier. That Pitts 850 is as close as I’ve gotten to a UMX so far but it has opened my eyes about how much fun a smaller plane can be so there may be one in the future for me. I’m still a newer pilot but making progress daily, I’m not much of a 3D pilot but I’m trying to learn, more of a sport flyer for now with a few tricks. Again, love the videos, especially when you show the stick movements so I can learn!

@mattmiller7494

@@howiedenton2709 I had a set of A380’s setting around that I threw in it. For some reason Horizon put metal gear servos in the ailerons and then put super cheap plastic gear analog servos in the tail servos on this plane. I mean really what did they save $5? Anyway it flies better in my opinion with those servos. If you get it make sure you do something to the battery tray to secure it, after my comment the other day about the 1400 ejecting the battery tray I took this out did the command for a crankshaft and the battery ended up on top of the tail servos. I knew instantly what happened, hovered great, flew like crap and landed even worse. Did my best to aim for the tall grass and set it down as nicely as possible. I had to straighten the landing gear but that was all which is a major success in my opinion if you could have seen how it flew.

@@3DMOFO2020 I mean I'm literally dumb sometimes. I thought you were talking about the EC-1500 vid. I could swear that's why I responded the way I did. The UMX Timber X wasn't hovering as well because it was just too nose heavy the way I was flying it. I just took it out in the cul-de-sac and set the battery as far back as it would go and it was significantly more hover-stable. I also moved the ball link on the elevator in to the innermost hole and trimmed it out mechanically for level flight.

You fly this plane well and it seems well suited to your style. To me a Timber is about STOL, high prop diameter low RPM pulling torque rather than small diameter high RPM power, and very low airspeed floating control. It seems Quique put Horizon on a path where every plane has to be a frantic, high roll rate screamer. Even a Bush plane. It’s a weird contradiction since a high wing with dihedral is never going to excel in that genre, but the heavy EPO and high RPM power pretty much commits you to it.
@TwoBrosRC
2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. It has a lot of potential that I'm still figuring out. In the meantime, it does fly well if you fly it anticipating that it needs at least some airspeed to make banked turns without dropping the inboard wing.
