Not in the sense that it isn't bad but in the sense that we just got done with another mass shooting or terrorist attack so this is pretty tame by comparison.

We know exactly how it collapsed, 2 lifting vehicles were set to lift the pre built bridge at each end, the way the road is set the 2 vehicles couldn't get to the very edge and had to move closer together, during pre tentioning the the left sides tensioning rod started to yeild (stretch) and they kept tightening not realising what was happening. once they lowered the lifts on the truck the left most size was under really high tension and the underside nut released meaning that side was weaker (pre tensioning is used to keep the concrete under compression) the dead weight of the bridge aided in the collapse that's why it seems to break on that side and then fall. Plus that flat truck wasn't a member of the public it was one of the vehicles used to lift the bridge for pre tensioning.

I had a similar question asked in my Philosophy class. It was, Theres a train coming, and there are two tracks. 3 average citizens are on one track, and 1 is on the other. You're too far from them, so you can't call out. But, You're standing next to a lever that will switch tracks. Would you let the train run over the 3 people, or the one person. A majority of the class said they'd let the train run over 1 person. But then our Professor twisted it a few times. Would you save the the one person if they were a doctor who is close to finding a cure for cancer and things like that. Quite interesting. Both sides had strong arguments

The bridge wasn't built by "a bunch of feminists" and MCM is not an all female company. That was a lie made up by the internet. There are articles claiming why women just aren’t meant to do construction and features a collage of female MCM construction workers. However, those photographs were pulled from the company’s social media posts celebrating women’s diversity and not from a post about the project in Florida. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose Pepe Diaz posted a few pictures from the construction site on Twitter and it shows a mainly male crew. Also, the company’s lead engineer on the project was Denney Pate, not a woman.
@nyx2277
6 жыл бұрын
"No one's claiming every construction worker was a woman" take a look at the comments section or even twitter. If you're talking about Leonor Flores, she did not work on the project in any capacity. A writer for the FIU news shared her story in an article, and the readers quickly assumed she had a hand in making the bridge. It was just a PR fluff to promote how "progressive" they are. [edit] it's hilarious how you're going around calling people dumbasses. It's like you completely lack self-awareness.

There was no beams or structural support designed by the feminist that claimed credits for the bridge and vanished off the face of the internet after it collapsed, hence it was waiting to fall at any moment. Workers noticed the cracks, but the people in charge of the project was already on vacation and didn't want to return until the following Monday which was already too late.

The crack wasn't the issue. New concrete curing cracks. The issue was them adjusting one of the PT-Bars(post tension bar) where they put too much tension on it. Concrete is much stronger with compression. They were going to compress the cables inside the bridge to strengthen it because they had to lift the bridge on different lift points than what was planned. That being said, it's pretty fucked that they kept allowing traffic to flow under it and not one fail safe being under it. Most bridges have more than one fail safe ready. I drove under that bridge the day before it fell.

A friend of mine worked on the bridge here is exactly what happened. They built the bridge off of the site in segments and put it together quickly there, it did not have support beams and the only thing keeping the bridge together was tension cables which are not meant to hold up a bridge by themselves without support pillars. The head engineer wanted to be stupid and pressure test the damn bridge in the middle of the day. They are trying to point the finger at someone else, don't listen to the testimony it was the engineer's call to leave the bridge up and not have any support besides the tension cables in the bridge itself.

Wasn't allowed on it cuz it wasn't done for pedestrian to walk around on yet also they were doing a stress test as the bridge collapsed they had traffic going through because they didn't want to close off the street again because it would back up traffic also fiu pushed the finished date ahead of time they wanted to rush this project, also I heard there was a crack in it. All they did was bring the bridge from somewhere else and basically glued it together

The company used is corrupted as hell, the dumbasses were doing a stress test or some shit that obviously had to be done with no traffic. The poor people waiting at the light didn't see it coming.
@EuanTodd
6 жыл бұрын
Diablo99V no they were pre tensioning the concrete, on it's own (without pre tensioning) the bridge wouldn't be able to hold itself up but pre tensioning (which isn't new and has been perfected) makes the concrete way stronger in tensile forces. The problem was the trucks lifting he bridge were too far away from the edge creating too high of a moment on the left side of the bridge, this moment caused the "tendon" to yeild and pull in the nut at the other end, they didn't realize what was happening and just thought the bolts were loose at the anchor so they tightened them, once under complete dead weight (the weight of the bridge) the anchor at the end wasn't strong enough causing it to release the "tendon" now that their aren't any compressive force (the direction concrete is strong in) their is now only tensile forces (the dead weight) the direction concrete is weakest in and the bridge collapsed. Nothing to do with corruption just them not thinking things through.

I never understood the whole train track thing so maybe I’m crazy. So most people would save 5 kids and sacrifice the fat man if the fat man was tied to train tracks and all you had to do was press a button, but they wouldn’t save the 5 kids if they had to push the fat man onto the tracks. I’ve always seen that as cheap and hypocritical, it’s like most people see the second scenario as murder because it’s more active but then they absolve themselves of guilt in the first case because they didn’t tie the fat man to the tracks. To me it seems clear that both cases are murder and I don’t think it’s right to wash your hands of responsibility if you’re going to press the button, I mean that would just be disrespectful to the man you’re murdering. I find the idea that anyone would justify the first scenario, by saying he’s lived a full life, truly cruel and scary. I would neither press the button nor push the man, I have no interest in playing the role of Thanatos.

Quick details: The bridge concept and precast concrete building are sound. What went wrong was neglect. The crack likely formed when one of the tension cables inside the concrete that keeps it from bending started to fail. It looked like they were trying to tighten it up when it collapsed. There's a crane that disappears from the scene before the news cameras showed up. They fucked up by not supporting the half completed structure, opening up the site to the public, and ignoring signs of failure. OSHA has been after Munilla Construction Management and FIGG before this happened for safety violations too.

Ahh the trolley problem. Talked about it in my jurisprudence class last week! Utilitarianism vs. Deontology. Killing 1 person to save the lives of 5 kids is utilitarianism. You look at the consequences of the actions - which action will lead to the most happiness (in this case, the least sadness). 5 kids alive > only 1 person alive. But the button vs. pushing method is about deontology. This says that we shouldn’t use the ends to justify the means; that we shouldn’t look at consequences to justify bad actions. There’s something inherently different and worse about physically pushing a person in front of a train to stop the train, rather than pushing a button. Moral of the lesson: We all have a utilitarian nature, but there’s a limit. At some point, our deontological sentiments kick in. Some things are so bad that even if they lead to a good outcome, we still wouldn’t do it.

The other one with saving the kids vs dropping that one dude you wouldn't be crazy on which life you save you would be crazy for not feeling the difference between pushing the button from a distance to kill him and being next to him and shoving him off the bridge.

TN1C you realize that ads are tailored based on your personal viewing trends, right? Creators aren't sitting behind each video picking and choosing which ads to implement.

The bridge was not built start to finish in 6 hours btw, it was pre built in parts and then moved there. Still not a good plan but it’s not like there was wet cement still

Just for clarification on the bridges: This is a new technique to building bridges but in the hundreds of bridges built this is the 1st to have collapsed. They build the pieces in a separate location and set it up like Legos. This technique is said to be faster and safer.

Also, another reason as to why they built the bridge: (Lol, For the joe's who were confused as to why they built it after 1 death) My co-worker lived there throughout high school and they were telling me that is was also to connect a parking lot and the school. Every year they use the parking lot for a big carnival event, an event that is very special to the community, and they were planning to make access to it easier for students and such.

Maybe Tiff didn’t mention a feminist because it doesn’t matter. Whether someone is republican, liberal, feminist, conservative, etc. hardly every really matters. Stop getting so tied up in labels🤦🏽♀️

Me thinking about the hypothetical pushing the person off the train: " Alright. One of us dying to save some kids. Now this fucking sucks, but we can rock,paper,scissors on one go to see who get's pushes." I'm will to be pushed off the train, but i'm gonna still gonna gamble on saving my ass, cause shit. I'm gonna die. with that as a factor I say luck of the draw whoever loses goes. If I lose... well I wouldn't be fucking surprised.
