I wonder how that new esp32 module will effect the custom mechanical keyboard community, if memory serves the unifying logitech usb is on 2.4ghz. And although bluetooth is nice for keyboards, more options is always nice

Lots of stuff is 2.4ghz including Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. I suspect folks won't use this for the 802.15.4 (ZigBee, thread) for keyboards, those protocols are not really meant for that, though the Bluetooth maybe.

@@rpavlik1 Yes but its a bit different no? this module is far lower level than Wifi and Bluetooth, sure the unifying logitech stuff is based on specific nRF modules (on their own proprietary protocol as well as BT) but I can imagine since this radio is more generic than others (and also part of esp) there is a greater chance some one could write a reasonably low-cost hardware using emulation of the protocol, without using the nRF module + another mcu. (Which if memory also serves is the best achieved so far)

@@orange- I thought you were concerned about interference. Compatibility, that depends on how low level of an interface is exposed for the radio I guess.

What's the difference between packet radio and LoRa? (Not LoRaWAN)

LoRa is a more generic low level protocol that enables you to make tradeoffs between throughout and range. LoRa generally provides a longer range than the packet radio. LoRa does not provide any kind of retransmission or delivery guarantees (if you need this then you'll have to build it on top of the LoRa transmission layer), while the packet radio does provide this. The packet radio will be easier to use, but LoRa may be more capable.

LoRa does have reliable datagram mode which is supported in Arduino and CircuirPython libraries. The extra distance that can be achieved with LoRa is based on the noise tolerance of the protocol.
