Pittsburgh was telling him to learn a few more pitches , he got an injury as a result as well as lots of walks . He's got a good live fastball and a wipeout curve with a pretty good slider . Pittsburgh didn't allow him to throw what he knows while filtering in other pitches . Red sox did well getting him , he definitely has a high ceiling , he's healthy now and hopefully Sox won't hamstring him .

I hate that our fanbase is so negative all the time. Pittsburgh drafted Jones/Skenes so they know what to look for, Andrew Bailey is turning good pitchers into great pitchers, and this kid is moving in the right direction with his stats and his stuff. I too miss the days of being the big scary team where every player we had was a 30 HR threat, but that's just not the game anymore. Winning takes depth/platoon pieces and incremental upgrades. Maybe this kid ends up being a bust, but for now all signs point towards a good thing for us.

I also expect in the next deal either Matthew Lugo and/or Nick Sogard get traded. I would try to make a deal for Snell. SF is trying desperately to get under the luxury tax. Sounds like another vote of confidence for the transformative powers of Andrew Bailey. And we don't label a guy who just turned 23 as a AAAA player unless he's already been there for more than 2 years. i get DFAing Anderson, but he provided a lot of help to this team cleaning up blowout wins and losses. He ate up many innings this season to save the bullpen usage early on. He was put in bad situation in the 10th after Jansen blew the save Saturday against the yanks. I knew having both Martin and Slaten out after the all star break would hurt big time. It has cost them probably 3 games in just over a week.

The Sox have more middle infielders than they can possibly use, and they need pitching. Throwing a critical mass of kinda lackluster but not overworked guys into the rotation and pen might get the ballclub in contending shape for a postseason run. The most accurate comment you made is when you said the Red Sox really haven't done anything to make this team better. That's not whining it's reality! When it became known that Martin's time out would be extended and Slaten joined him and then Jansen would be absent in Colorado, they needed to move their calendar up a mere 12 days before the deadline. They did nothing! Breslin decided to tread water and the blown saves inside of one week were disheartening. They were never truly committed to making this team better. If they were that then Josh Bell being placed on waivers and the right handed hitter they sought would have been aggressively pursued.

I hated to see Nick Yorke go. My heart sank a bit when I saw Priester's era but then I noticed his age was pretty young and also that he has a very live arm. I also studied video of him and saw flashes of brilliance. Something the "RedSox School of Pitching" could shape and hopefully develop. This is something Boston has needed to get better at. Bailey is leading the charge and things appear to be going in the right direction in regards to that. I do think on the surface Boston over paid on this one but......the jury is still out on it. (I felt Yorke was worth a prospect more on the caliber of perhaps a Richard Fitts.) We need to see if Priester can attain a higher level. I bet Yorke becomes a starter on that Pirates team pretty quickly. I have mixed emotions on this one but I am willing to see what develops because I do think there is a chance that this plays out ok for Boston. Youth and a live arm give the Priester trade a chance here. Bostons mlb draft went better this year as they did draft more pitching and in the early rounds. Lets continue with that. Thanks Corbin. I like the arm coming to boston i was high on him from when he was drafted. But this seems very allan webster ish. And a player unproven i feel like sox could of got priester for less than yorke. Yorke could of been used in a higher impact deal like tanner scott or someone like that

Typical Red Sox trade ...a top prospect for a "maybe". The guy had a near 5 ERA and couldn't cut it with the Pirates...frankly, don't be shocked if Nick Yorke turns out to be an All Star for the Pirates. 4 prospects traded in 2 days for a backup catcher and maybe a long reliever...wow.

Ppp it seems that York was a victim of circumstances at the beginning of the season grissom was pegged to be the second baseman now he's on the injured list there's like four guys that can play second on the major league roster. The necessity was evident that starting pitching, but not an ace was at the top of the wish list Serena packed what they did was a Delta New York to Pittsburgh for a pitcher who had started potential we still have Rich fits in the minors in AAA he would probably be a good call up when the roster is extended or they get the new guy and he does something essential. Regardless it seems that York was expendable comet to the disappointment of a lot of us

This trade probably on paper is a wash but I had read Yorke was doing pretty good up in Wooster so until we see what the pitcher has its a slight loss to the Red Sox just my opinion. I sure hope this is not the end of the help the ball club. Can see a lot of contenders boosting their clubs again so keeping fingers crossed we weren't told a fairy tale that would be sad.

You go to the same barber as Marcelo? Glut of middle infielders on the farm and not a lot of arms. If we had made this trade last season, I'd be upset. After watching what the staff has done with the current pitchers I'm a bit more optimistic.

I like this deal for the simple fact the Sox desperately needs pitching now and in the future. The next 24 hours are going to be interesting it seems like the asking price now is really high so Breslow might not be able to do much more since he's not going to mortgage the future as usual we'll see 🙈

Hate this trade for the Red Sox. Idk why Yorke wasn't on the team over Westbrook. Idk why they didn't trade him for something to help the team now. This seems like a deal that could have been made in the offseason. Even so, I'd rather have Yorke.

Nick Yorke was not ever going to make it to the Red Sox. Craig pushed to get the best deal for him now. The Red Sox could have used him at this moment. And if they traded O'Neil. Grissom will be back in 10 days. So he would not be needed anymore. They have 3 other second basement as good or better than him right now. He was rule 5 eligible so he had to be added to the 40 man roster or he would have been taken. Quinn Priester is a major league ready pitcher. If someone gets hurt he is the one they call up. He will probably make the 2025 roster. He also has options remaining. I expect more trades to come. Quinn Priester, or Fitts could be part of a bigger deal for another starter. The Red Sox still have a log jam of players.

What isn't being spoken about is how Breslow gave up WAY more for Danny Jansen than what the mariners gave up for Justin Turner. And I mean WAY more. And the Cardinals gave up NOTHING for Erick Fedde. Im curious if hes getting reafy to sell. Id love to hear a deep explanation from brealow in why jansen was more important than justin turner.

I say get all the pitching you can get, prospects are just that prospects you never know how these kids are going to pan out, I’m in favor for trading for crochet, even if you have to give up a Mayer or Anthony, along emwith others, Fenway is made for right handed pull hitters and all Sox prospects are left handed, so we end up platooning these players when there’s a tough or even mediocre lefty on the mound, you supposed to trade prospects for established major leaguers, that’s why I loved dombbrowski he wasn’t scared to pull the trigger, Moncada, Kopech for sale that was the steal of the century that trade today would not have been made, Moncada was ok and kopech ok, but that’s what these prospects are, go get crochet young know what you’re getting lefty

@@Bondagefetishstore I would have DFA Bobby Dalbec for the 40 man. Sent Westbrook down for the active roster spot. Turner overall stats are down compared to last season, no denying it. However his results vs. left hand pitching are better and that is why I think he should have been an option for the Sox.

@@brentbell7235 That is a good idea but what about Grissom who will be by August 9th. Casas will be back round the 20th. That is 2 more roster spots on the 26 man. And you need one on 40. Westbrook goes off 40. When Grissom comes back Westbrook goes down. Dom Smith goes when Casas comes back. I do not see how Turner fits. I do see a couple more trades though.
