Katie Norton same here. It was one of the first musicals I had ever truly appreciated. I even tried to make my nine/ten year old friends watch it at my birthday party. It didn't go well as most of them didn't really like musicals and it just ended up being a bunch of third grade girls pow-wowing about how cute (some even said hot... but then again, we were weird third graders) the boys in the movie were. But, just recently the script company that our county uses has finally gotten Newsies and I'm dying for it to be Newsies.

things about Jack Kelly that I wish they didn't change for the stage; -his hat -his scarf -his hopefulness (true he has a lot of hope in the stage production but in the movie it was WAYYY more present!) Side notes; When Davey says "we can't beat up kids in the streets, it'll give us a bad name!" and Crutchie shouts "can't get any worse!" The World is the newspaper they work for so the song is a play on words for both The World Newspaper and the ACTUAL world! hehe XD

They changed him from "Cowboy" to "starving artist" and I hate it. He was great the way he was. They also took out the scene where he meets David's parents, which is actually a pretty pivotal moment for Jack and the audience. It emphasizes his loneliness about not having a family like David does and leads him into "Santa Fe", except in the movie it's clear he doesn't really want to go there, he just thinks it's all he has left because, as he said, he has nobody waiting up for him at home, he has no family. So yeah, thanks for ruining my favorite character Disney
@faithmilitello9445

People always come for me when I say I like Jack better in the movie. I realize that Jeremy Jordans’s voice is better but that’s because he’s a Broadway actor. Christian Bale didn’t even know it was going to be a musical until after he agreed to be in it. In the musical Jack is very angsty and secretly artsy. (He seems a lot older than 17. Obviously because Jer Jor is not 17) In the movie Jack is more of a kid and it breaks my heart because he is so young and has to deal with all of this. He has no real family, he has a job that won’t get him anywhere, he wants to go to Santa Fe because it’s his only option at this point. They also took away his bandanna, and cowboy hat and the other boys don’t call him cowboy which I felt like gave Jack more of a connection with the other characters. Thank you for coming to my ted talk🤠

The greatest Pro worker and Union song I've ever heard... No one on the bottom has ever gotten their due, because the people on the top graciously gave it to them We took our rights and protections with blood, sweat and under threat the whole way.

I was 9 and a half years old the first time I saw this movie when it first came out. I loved it then and I still love it. I remember being very excited when the musical first came out. Then I remember feeling very let down when I saw it. It just wasn’t as good as this movie.
