Interesting start of the video. I have done so many projects and never really though about doing videos on KZitem. I however decided to look into doing this as I do have so many projects in mind. Nice basics. I don't think any one is done learning. some one always comes up with another creative way of doing stuff that can be added to your skill set. Thanks.

Thanks man! Means a lot. Its been a long time since I uploaded between covid and work and graduating my channel has taken a heavy backseat.

@@CapitalGearGaming I put my channel on the backseat for a time as well but I think its time to get back into really making stuff again. As basic as things can be or advanced it is always nice to see creative minds at work. Just something to look into again. To me I am ramping back up. I have not done many videos but now I have so much creativity I am 3 months in for videos coming out and I have many more to come. I see this only as a rest point but at the moment I am going to this time show my projects. Before I did not show anything. Now I show projects as they are created. Not going to stop either.

as you progress through the series you'll find that these videos are just ad much a learning experience for me as they should be for you. I've used lightwave for close to about 5 years now and am in a constant state of learning new things. This is why I follow no script or pre-planned path when doing these tutorials. I want to be able to take what I've learnt and apply them without having to regurgitate it off a piece of paper. you'd be surprised. I've received some hate because of it.

Thank you this is very helpful. I haven't used Lightwave since it was on Amiga, and just getting back into it, super rusty but your video triggered some memories and skills. Journey continues :)

Being able to view only one side of the polygon has nothing to do with just being a polygon, making the surface double sided will allow you to view both sides.
@CapitalGearGaming
5 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by this, been five years now since I made this. But it being double sided or not doesn't change if it's a polygon or not. A 2-D Polygon is still a 2-D Polygon regardless of double-sided being activated or not the only way for a polygon to have a physical additional side is to make into a 3-D shape in which case again it's insides would still be considered 2-D and again you can use double-sided to force it to be rendered on the inside. While double-sided doesn't offer many issues and its uses are limited when it comes to much larger scenes with millions of polygons using double-sided is considered an unoptimized method and can hurt your performance/rendering times in larger scenes. Double-Sided is better off being used to provide certain background non-main-focus objects more depth, a great example could be a box on the table of a scene, there's no reason to model and render a fully 3-D and detailed box if all it will do is sit in the background and never have interaction. In this case, textures will provide you with the realism you want. On the other hand to model the main character with hundreds of thousands of polygons and to have collision and animation played on them, with IK and everything the whole package. To have that double sided is extremely bad and unoptimized. From increased render times to the issues you might encounter with collision should you choose to use the main model for that. (For some reason) That all being said double-sided with some minor exceptions feel a lot like Metaballs, useful in their own right but with modern hardware and more options at hand is in general out-dated and unnecessary. I commonly use it when modeling so I don't get confused not being able to see the inside of something or like I said above when using a background low poly object that doesn't need to be "3-D"

I seem to recall I did record a UI video separate to this one. But press D then under display there will be a drop down menu for window configuration.

In LightWave Modeler hit the D key which will bring up Display Options under the Layout tab you can choose which layout you want. In the tutorial this has his viewport layout set to Quad.

Cut edge lines near the edges of the box and sub patch with the tab key.
@CapitalGearGaming

After sub-patching you can choose to freeze the mesh if you so wish. If you want to avoid the extra polygons you can do it manually by adding edge lines yourself through the knife tool or by the edit edges tool and then using point move you can manually create the curvature. Another option can be to try and use the rounder tool, this method however can and likely will produce triangles on the corners of your object.

***** Once you have committed to the numeric creation properties they can not be readjusted without recreating the box. However tools are available to change the already commited box. Edit Edges under modify can add and slide edge loops. Sub-divide will divide the box evenly. You can select faces and move then with move tool (t) as a method of resizing or utilize stretching and size tools. (h and/or Shift+H)

I want to make an package box, relistic. Is there any starting point? Any advice? Because i can’t find any tutorial for making and package box :(

Lea Kukmanovic package like amazon package? Context would be useful, but the most important thing on making things realistic is in texturing. Worry less about polygon count and get a very realistic texture. (Preferably without shadows.) Set up a small environment for your package to be in, add some hard lights like spot lights for artificial light giving you very hard shadows and use dome lights with a low angle for very soft shadows. Play with reflection a bit, get radiosity in there for more even lighting and push the AA or your dome light shadows will have lots of noise.

I assume you mean one of these yah?: cdn3.volusion.com/nzpdy.nyvqj/v/vspfiles/photos/4INPB-2.jpg Again, for the most part, you're dealing with a lot of texture, as for the surfacing, those kinds of boxes use Translucency more than Transparency, (the light can pass through the object but not with ease.) and for that particular kind, you can give it a small noise bump texture to give it that look of it feeling grainy to the touch.

CapitalGearGaming great advice! :) i’m so begginer in this.. can’t manage with “primitives”- shapes.. but.. practice, practice.. I want this kind of box- goo.gl/images/ajUWW6 ... you see on top it has like- shadow- on the place where you open it! How to do that? Sorry for distrubing.. i just need that and obviously i have a lack of imagination :(

Lea Kukmanovic no problem, there's plenty of help out there including myself. You can even email newtek support for tips and suggestions and they will personally respond. As for that shadow its not. The lid of the box is curved and ever so slightly open in the middle. You can cheap out and just use textures on a six sided box to get a very realistic image. But if its the main focus of the animation or you want to animate it then you'll need to physically model the lid as well.
