Btw, Kalmar Union existed during most of the timespan AOE4 takes place. That was a Union of all the scandinavian nations, Danes, Norwegians ans Swedes. So it would not be wrong to bunch then up as 1 nation. As much as I dont like being paired up with my swedish neighbours, despite our differences, we are very cultural alike, i would so moreso than most countries with shared culture. (Like Ukraine and Russia, or Portugal and Spain to give a few samples) But yeah the Vikings are definitely most likely next in line paired with something interesting

@@Skillionaire005 your welcome. I just corrected as I saw the Word NOT was missing on "it would NOT be wrong..." Just a FYI. Might be a bit dated info but i think the AoE4 timeline was something spanning between 732-1664. Also think Portugal is a more likely candidate than Spain, and perhaps with a Variant of Portugal being actually Spain. As Portugal was a bit more unified and ahead of the empire building game during the reconquista, meanwhile Spain took some time to consolidate and become the spanish empire we know off. Also Portugal was kinda all over the place, all along and even inside Africa, in Asia and aswell the Americas. They are popular enough by themselves to attract a huge playerbase (such as Brazil) and can be pretty much be paired with any lesser known but significant empires from any corner of the would. Could be Swahili empire of East Africa, Ethiopia, any of the Hindu Indian ones and the Majapahit of East Asia. And well the Mayans, Incans and Aztecs aswell.

@@Kameeho Very good point about Portugal, but I think to make Spain a variant would be an injustice to them and their significance. Otherwise yes you make very good points.

If they’re going to add more variant civs, Novgorod would be a decent contender as a Rus derivative. It shares origins with the rus of Kiev but diverted into an oligarchic republic, which was run by the veche, who elected and dismissed princes. So a metropolitan niche with an elective system could be interesting. An interesting variant for Delhi could be the Bahmani/ Deccan Sultanates. Known for their early development of gunpowder weapons, they would have good defenses, cosmopolitan trade, and siege. They would also have a nice flavour of Deccan culture and architecture (assuming they give any of these variants new landmarks), and would be Muslim, so they’re not treading on a potential Hindu civ like the Rajasthanis or the Tamils or Vijayanagara or the Odias. Personally, if they’re going to add more European civs, Castile/ Aragon would be the best option with the Danes or the Portuguese as close seconds. But I hope they move on to Southeast Asia (Burmese, Thai, Khmer, Majapahit, Dai Viet) and Korea. Btw, do you think the Scots or Poles should be considered for AOE4?

Great read, thank you. Did you see the new map coming is related to the Americas? Conspiracy hats on, maybe it's a setup for future Inca faction... I think both Scots and Poles should be considered yes. Poles first as they have a bigger audience that wants to see them. Scots is a bit harder to justify adding before the many other factions out there but I'd personally love to see them + maybe it would reduce English players as many move to Scots (many people here and in America etc trace roots back to Scotland).

I am really expecting a Crusader variant civ and here’s why: - The previous dlc introduced the “Saladin” variant by including the Ayyubids. They love to add civs that already fought civs that are already in the game (Otto- Byz, Mongols-Japanese) -There are campaign assets in the game already that have all three main crusader orders (knights Templar, Hospitallers, Teutonic order) -they have used campaign assets or ideas and included them in the game (early lancers were made into keshiks for mongols, king was added as a unit for English, Wynguard units were in the English campaign) -Crusaders sell well, the Teutonic order Knight is still one of the most iconic units in aoe2.

It would be cool if they introduced the Scotts as a sub-faction of the English with William Wallace as the leader. My Bet is on the Aztecs or some South American empire. The Aztecs were in AOE2 and 3

Do you think the Scots would be happy with that? I would think my friends up north would prefer their own landmarks and voice lines. Americas would be very very cool.

The two civ that would bring the most "uniqueness" to the game, that aren't similar to anything else we have. Are Vikings (Danes) and Khmers (one of the largest independent empire of the 1200 that isn't in the game yet). They both very different culturally from other civ that are all mostly christian or muslim. Aztect would work too but they're a bit later on timeline than typical aoe4 civ (1500), which fit a lot less. For variants, if they decide to make another hero civ it HAS to be Genghis Khan, it would be the most appropriate hero variant.

They already created the Varangian Guard and Rus ships have the same vibe, so Vikings/Danes would be the easiest to implement considering the assets they already have

Sadly I think the monumental effort it takes to make a civ (excellent models, historical voice lines per age, culture research, artwork, design and more) means it takes a long time + they'd want to generate revenue from their efforts. There's also lots of complex business things going on too - they'll have other games to work on too

I don't think they will come together - they will save them for separate releases I think to sell more. They will pair each with an exotic less popular civ like some of the ones I said in my video
