That Intellipark is truly a sad sight to behold, at least for me. I know a lot of drivers hate the feeling they get when they pull the parking brake knob and therefore this is better for them, but I prefer the knob for its simplicity, the satisfaction of knowing the parking brake is set just by pulling it, and if the valve ever goes bad, it's a relatively inexpensive fix. Electronic parking brakes are better suited for hydraulic brakes, not air.

Makes sense, because I remember reading an article about 5 years ago that was explaining how when Thomas/Freighliner discontinued the FS65, it was to introduce the Saf-T-Liner C2, which would be a more transit-style bus and more spacious and aerodynamic than other styles. It also said that other brands like IC (Navistar) and Blue Bird were looking into following the same design because they noticed a sales drop when Thomas introduced the C2 and then they saw a larger drop when Thomas introduced the HDX. IC hasn’t been doing well on neither the RE bus and they discontinued the FE style. Blue Bird is doing good on their styles (you can see I don’t pay much attention to Blue Bird) because they already had an aerodynamically sound design, they just didn’t have a lot of space; now they do.

My base at my company uses IC buses and I honestly prefer them over Thomas and Bluebird, but I'm not a fan of the changes. Not big on the front door switch being within easy reach of some misbehaving student, and not big on the electronic parking brake either. I really don't think such small marker lights are good for school buses and it would take me a while to get used to so many of the switches being to my right instead of my left. My bus is a 2013 IC and I love it. One of the few at my base that has power mirrors and despite it's age it is solid. I could have picked a newer bus this year, but my heart was set on taking that one again.

83 passenger? I've never heard of such a thing. But then again I'm 60, and the last time I rode a bus to school was in 5th grade. Also in the 70s our church had two Sunday School buses, which were old school buses. One of those buses was kept into the early 80s. It was a 1965 Superior, on International Loadstar chassis. My Dad always said it was 37 feet long, bumper to bumper. I know it was a 54 passenger bus. It had 11 rows of seats, with 3-seaters on the left side if the aisle and 2-seaters on the right side of the aisle, except the far back row had a 2-seater on each side. I took pictures of that bus in 1981. It had a v-8 gas engine with 5-speed stick shift, manual brakes, and no a/c. All that was normal for those days.
@crabbymilton390

I’m going to be 60 in 3 months so I remember those buses LOADSTAR chassis based buses of that vintage too back when I was in school. My grade school had 2 36 passenger versions. Don’t know which body builders they were but both were 1600 chassis. The older of the two actually had a 6 cylinder gasoline engine. I only got to ride on them for field trips but I remember that 6 cylinder engine really screamed on the interstate and probably no more than 50 mph. That particular bus crapped out in 1975 and was replaced by an used 1973 36 passenger bus on another 1600 chassis. I got a kick out of those especially the old one with the 6 cylinder engine because it sounded so different than the other one with the V8. Good solid buses though and very rarely saw school buses built on anything other than INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER back then. Sure there were a few FORD, GM and DODGE based buses but most preferred IH. I missed out riding on the later versions with automatic transmissions. Now those AT 545’s really sounded neat.

Very pleased with the new design. I feel most people didn't give it the chance yet, but most of my concerns that I previously had are now gone. I still wonder how the service doors actually operate even with that extra curved piece on the outside. I don't like how having a physical door switch eats up part of the steering wheel design. Another thing I'm interested in is seeing if the dash has the warning light indicators especially since those bus boy mirrors never show the overhead warning lights from the driver's perspective. I also wonder if IC Bus has fully moved away from the air cylinder door mechanisms since the independency could prevent that from working as normal. Also another concern was the parking brake location, my district doesn't require the parking brake at stops as we have an automatically applied loading brake, so I'd assume they'd still be interested in the normal push/pull valve if they were to return to IC Bus. Our fleet currently is IC Bus, however we stopped purchasing from them and are currently awaiting the new '24 Blue Bird Visions to arrive. I'm curious to see how efficient the new positioning is for the push/pull style parking brake or if it's more of an inconvenience. Lastly I don't agree with the hood design for not at least covering the International Trucks badge, because it looks like it's a rip off. I due believe the badge kind of resembles just before IC Bus was fully separated from International Trucks badging, when they used to let other manufactures use their chassis. From this, I believe Thomas may actually consider using their TC series as their design hasn't really changed but this would give them the opportunity to have a new look. Of course, this may also let Blue Bird start making bodies as well for the TC series, which I'm curious to see who if any actually starts making bodies for the TC series.

I just realized that the previous generation school bus is also sold as model year 2024. While this is not a light-duty automobile sold to household consumers, the light-duty automotive industry usually distinguishes the next generation or update of the same model year from the previous generation by adding or subtracting ".5" or "1/2" to the official model year. For example, the Ford Mustang was updated just months after it was first released, and the version released in winter 1964 was known as a 1965, while the original released in spring 1964 was called a 1964 1/2, even though both are officially model year 1965. Much later, the Nissan Hardbody was redesigned mid-way through MY 1986. The previous generation is known as 1986 while the new one is dubbed 1986 1/2. The same thing happened to the Toyota Pickup in MY 1995, with the new one being given the brand name Tacoma. As a result, people call the initial release of the Tacoma as MY 1995 1/2 or MY 1995.5. The same thing also happened to the Camry in 2014 when its structure had an emergency update to improve crashworthiness for the newly released small overlap test by the IIHS, bringing it from a Poor to an Acceptable. The reinforced one was known as MY 2014.5, this time with the automaker actually officially calling it that way for marketing purposes. The Camry was facelifted and heavily modified just a few months later for MY 2015 anyway, finally getting a Good rating in that crash test. So, this school bus would semi-formally be called a 2024.5 IC CE.

Passengers cars and light-duty vehicles have changed quite a lot since model year 2009, so I would like to know how it is with heavy-duty vehicles. I don't see any vents above the passenger seats. I also looked at IC's website and could not find a list of features. Does this newly redesigned bus have air conditioning? If it does, is it for the driver only or have the driver vents intentionally been made high velocity (search high velocity air conditioning) in order to cool the entire cabin? Does it come standard with it? What is the MSRP of the base model this bus, and what are the trims available? What is the fuel economy for the EPA's city and highway test cycles?
