Been watching a lot of these and overall looks like a great alternative to the traditional way of pouring, and for most all home applications, it works great. Also an awesome options if you don;t have a mixer or want/able to get one on site. However, it seems to me, it's just as much labor as wet pouring, in fact, I think wet pouring may be faster. The reason I am arriving at this conclusion is the time to pour and prep the initial surface. It seems you have to spend a fair amount of time to get it right before the watering process begins. Also seems that same time would have been spent waiting on the mixer to mix the slurry and pour it and finish it, standing up with a bull float, instead of the constant crouching to get the dry mix to look nice. Just one dudes opinion. I am going to still try it for a small generator pad to verify, but if you have a mixer, the wet pour seems on par as far as labor and time and neither is superior.

I definitely can understand what you are saying and respect how you feel. In the spirit of all honesty, the dry pour process is super easy. You are correct, staying bent over to screed probably isn’t as comfortable as a bull float you can stand with, but have to pour and mix a sack or two at a time (depending on the size of your mixer) takes a while when you are mixing 30+ sacks in my opinion. But again, I respect and definitely understand what you are saying. Thank you for watching nevertheless!

This looks great! Love the Brand... Might try to brush out the rocks & seal your concrete, which would fill & basically level up any holes left. It might take a couple coats with heavier applications where holes are, but should work & save the project. You could even paint the brand prior to sealing to give it a color pop. The nice thing is with all that heat, you won't be waiting long between applications of anything... LOL!

Looks really good. I thought your screed board was too short when you first started. I found that the screeding process goes much, much smoother when your board is about 8"-10" longer on each side of the form. I did notice that you went to a longer board. Interesting what you did with the brand. I might experiment with something like that on my next pour. Thanks and great job.

With the little experience I have with it, I would recommend more concrete. The more concrete and screeding the better the finish. If you see a area with rocks exposed, just add some more concrete to that area, and screed over it and it should hide it all! Best of luck!
@chesslover8829

I add four cups of portland cement to each bag. I then mix the material in a wheelbarrow and pour the contents into the forms. It takes multiple passes with the screed board to get the gravel to settle. After watering is done, the next day I cover the slab with Harbor Freight moving blankets and keep the blankets wet for seven days before removing them.

The sandy top is part of the dry pour. If you give it a day or two and give It a good rinse, it will feel like a normal wet pour slab!

When things don't go as planned, adjust. I'm afraid you won't be happy with the area around the brand. Yes, it's too late now & you just have to go with it ... but in the future, remember that you don't have to stick to your plan. It may have been better to just pull the brand, re-screed, and roll it smooth. But good work regardless! Best of luck to you.

I am 76 years old and hold a degree in construction technologies from the University of Florida. Additionally, I obtained my General Contractor's license in Florida back in 1981. Throughout my entire career, I worked primarily in heavy commercial construction. Based on my experience, it is never considered acceptable to use dry concrete in any construction project. To illustrate this, let's consider baking a cake. If you were to put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and add water without mixing them, you wouldn't expect to get a good cake, right? Similarly, in construction, using dry concrete without proper mixing would yield unsatisfactory results.
@bayoufarmlife

Hi sir. What you said makes 100% sense! But considering the fact this slab is for foot traffic only, I am hopeful that it will hold up! If I end up with unsatisfactory results I will most certainly try different methods. Thank you for watching and your feedback!

I still don't get the reason to bother with this dry pour nonsense on a small job like that. So easy to just mix the stuff up and pour it in... you'll have better concrete, cured faster, and probably in less time. There is really no point in doing this as a dry pour project.... funny how many people have jumped into this and don't realize that mixing the concrete isn't all that hard LOL.

@@jerzycal is it really though? Was mixing concrete ever really so difficult? Or is this just the perfect answer to show one of the things that is wrong with society today... taking the easy way out to avoid a little bit of manual labor to actually MIX the concrete?
@Hammer.J.Helmer

@@bayoufarmlife hey man, I love you did the video, but there are a few things that are wrong with what you said above, as well as the job you did in the dry pour. That is a long run, there are no expansion joints or cuts in that concrete. You live in Louisiana, so you don't have to worry about freeze/though cycles like someone up north or out west, or at elevation like me in the Smoky Mountains, but you'd be pulling all that concrete out and redoing it in a couple of years in a different climate due to cracking and breaking up. Doing a small run like that, you easily could have mixed those same 8-10 bags of concrete, and time would never have been an issue. You'd get a nicer result, you could have still put your brand in it and it would have looked a helluva lot nicer... I'm not hating on you to be a troll... I just think that all this dry pour stuff is so short sighted and not much faster or easier than using concrete the right way. Your video to share what you did was cool, and I give you a thumbs up for it. I'm just conversing about the idea that dry pour is the new cat's meow. 😉
