Great video. For all of you watching this who are applying for a brigade, it's the interview which is the hardest part to pass. As long as you're reasonably fit, by that I mean regularly undertake exercise such as sport or gym, then you shouldn't find the physical tests hard. It all comes down to the interviews and they are the part of the process where the largest % of people undertaking them fail.

Ben Paynter I got to interview stage in 2008 I was 18. One of two senior firefighters whom interviewed me said next time they hoped to see me working for the service. I waited two and a half months for the next stage letter although it wasn't good news. I was very upset and sought feed back to improve, the recruitment team said I passed everything just one of those things. I've just applied for West Yorkshire now

Isa 89 just keep plugging away. Loads of people in the service applied multiple times before they got in. If you keep going it'll happen for you in the end

Did all this today, only difference being my enclosed space test was in the same cage but completely blacked out the whole time and it's great fun! Hardest part by far was the equipment carry, really really tough!

@brendanbutterworth Your are very naive, how was the caller supposed to know what was alight?, Also a matress alight can destroy a house in a very short amount of time. I think you may be exagerating with 6 machines, if further calls are made by a member of public it instantly gets made up to 4. And maybe an arial appliance riding with 2. Yes maybe 22 Firefighters. Let's imagine it was your house and maybe you have children and they are inside. What would you prefer. 1 machine or 6?

Do not apply to join the fire service unless u are extremely fit and extremely strong. If u can't carry an unconscious body, have the decency not to apply. 3 hours into the Grenfell incident a male resident was able to descend 15 smoke filled floors tripping over bodies presumably left by the LFB. If u r a "46 year old grandmother" methods may have been changed to make it easier for u to pass training and "high pressure military style training" has been refocused to "learning and development". Also u will have a female boss who had "never seen" an incident like Grenfell in her 29 years...presumably why she was unable to learn and develop the service to better cope with such an incident...possibly too busy ensuring "46 year old grandmothers" were not being "shouted at by a 25 year old instructor". Think I am being harsh? Check out the LFB website and the quotes of Dany Cotton, also watch the other videos on youtube featuring her prior to and during Grenfell.

FS training needs to be a mix of development AND high pressure training. You need to learn but also work in high stress situations. Also, the ability to follow orders but also know when _not_ to, because you may become aware of something that your superior isn't. For example, your SO may tell you to get the water on a gas canister storage pen, not realising there are drums of powdered sodium right next to it.
