being a very beginning beginner and a short arsed wheelchair user i think this guitar would be great for me, due to my short arsed-ness i cant handle full size guitars, ive tried, it wasnt a good look, so been looking at 3/4 guitars like the epiphone les paul express, but i think i might better with one of these.

I've had one of these for a while now, I use a suede strap, solves the problem of the neck diving down. Took It to band practice last night for the first time and the guys were well impressed with the sound.

Nice color. I've had my eye on the Shorty for some time now. It will hold tune best if you replace the plastic nut with a Tusq nut. It'll sound better too and you may not have to replace the tuning keys ✌

Sounds great for like 100 bucks I’m considering buying a guitar mostly unplugged that’s small and inconspicuous. This would be great for bringing to work on break times!

I'm going to be sitting in my car and practise for 45 minutes to an hour before I start work and throughout the day. I have a mini 5watt amp and a pockrock. I can either plug headphones into that or jam through the amp. I wish there was a video of what to do once you receive this guitar because it may need some much needed work before it's playable.

My mate has one, and after playing his, it gave me the idea of using it as a Lap Steel guitar, propped on a make shift stand, to play some nice dirty Blues slide on, in open E.

Yeah it would work well like that. Mine has a very flat fretboard profile, though I haven't check yet to see how flat it is. But it would make it great to use with a slide.

The capacitor on the tone control could probably be experimented with, with different values to see what different tones it can give. I had the idea of putting a small amp circuit in the hofner shorty somehow and put a speaker on it. I have the bits to do it, I just haven't got round to doing it yet lol. I think the they used to sell some back in the 80's with built in amps. Edit : I just found a video with one of the 80's ones with the amp 'Weirdest Shorty Guitar HÖFNER built-in amplifier+speaker Traveler Guitar, E.Borutto@Fabrica Isleta,'. It actually looks alright and I would have thought adds a fair amount of weight to the guitar making it probably much more balanced

My old Japanese squier strat is big and kind of gets in the way but my hofner shorty is nice and compact and doesn't get in the way. I'll have to get heavier gauge strings because as you say the strings that come with it are awful lol. I'm pretty sure you had the original factory strings on yours like I have on mine, which I bought brand new

Change the pickup. I put a DiMarzio D-Activator in mine and it sounds ridiculously good. I added push/pulls for series/parallel and treble bleed and it is super versatile. I can do all my electric gigs with mine: Blues, Funk, R&B, Rock, Fusion, Pop, whatever. I don't play Metal, traditional Jazz, or Country, so I can't speak to those from experience, but I have every confidence that the right pickup in one of these would get you there.

They ought to add a weight of some kind on the bottom of the guitar. Worst neck dive guitar ever out of the box...... Also not exactly carry-on compliant length... Is it? Which is the whole point for most people looking at something like this. I guess maybe you could unbolt.... But it doesn't look super unbolt and store friendly... Yeah. These are not the droids you're looking for....

Iv'e got a hofner shorty in the sparkly glittery red colour. The strings on it are light as fk and so easy to bend, but the thing plays like crap with chords. I'm going to have to try some heavier gauge strings. I think they are a brilliant little guitar for being able to modify. I have a crppy 'eleca' (strat style) travel electri guitar that I got at a car boot sale some years back and I could maybe pop the pickup from that in the hofner shorty towards the neck and maybe transfer the non tremelo bridge too. The eleca has no truss rod (which is a shame) and the neck is bowing a lot so the thing is awful to play. The hofner shorty could be modified to have body extenders that pull out from the top and the bottom to make it heavier and feel more like a normal guitar. I saw a photo of John Lennon with a 'Sardonyx 800 D II' which is an ugly electric guitar and has kind of outriggers made of metal that stick out from the top and the bottom of it, but that idea could be a very usefull mod to the hofner shorty.

i've not played one but as they are a more regular guitar shape, i would say they're a hell of a lot more practical than a hofner. that being said, the pickup in the hofner is really nice!
