In 1930, a young historian and philosopher set foot on Indian soil for the first time in his life. He would gather information for his massive 11-volume work called 'The Story of Civilization'. He was so stunned and enraged that he decided to write everything down to reveal what he considered 'one of the greatest crimes in history'. That person was Will Durant, and he wrote in his work: "The British conquest of India means the unconscionable and unlawful occupation and destruction of a high civilization by a commercial company. This company, which is indifferent to art and constantly wants to win, has destroyed the country. " While India was one of the leading countries of production, science and art, especially from the 5th and 6th centuries, it was deliberately impoverished and presented as a backward country with the lie that it would be civilized by England. In English literature, however, all these events were portrayed as family portraits.
The queen, who was shown as a merciful mother, was shown to embrace children in distant lands who needed discipline, to tame them and to enable them to reach the level of civilization.
