Calgary just doesn't have that big of a Basketball fan base. Vancouver and Toronto both got raw deals when they came in as expansion teams but as we saw even Vancouver couldn't cut it as an NBA city. The first year everyone was gung ho but after 3 -4 years of losing attendance started dropping big-time. It's a shame Vancouver couldn't hold onto their NBA team as they were only in Vancouver for 6 seasons and I remember the NBA screwed over Toronto and Vancouver as they made a rule that no expansion team had ever had before that Van & Toronto couldn't have the #1 overall draft pick for something like 5 years (I can't remember the exact number of years but it was something like 5 years give or take a year) Vancouver finished in last place in 1995/96 and if allowed they would have had the best chance to draft Allen Iverson. Most of that space south of the arena needs to stay vacant since it's the Stampede fairgrounds site. Nice job on this one. Can’t say it reminds me particularly of anything, it seems so unique. It’s warm and inviting, which is exactly what those people need when it’s 15° Fahrenheit outside. Has the same inviting principle that a lodge would have at a ski resort. Definitely blends with the environment, which is an advanced architectural principle. Wanting to do it and actually pulling it off is huge. The inside was built for the fans also, not as a vessel for the owners to install POS’s everywhere. Huge lower bowl like Ginger mentioned, and fairly large club level with a lot of excellent seats for people who can’t afford a suite. The upper deck is insignificant and is probably much cheaper and targeted for giveaways and families on a budget. What a fan-friendly place. Wow. The SaddleDome is ancient, decrepit, and they used to play there in the ‘80’s when they were hot. Back when I used to actually watch hockey. Brilliant place.

There was an unofficial sod turning over a month ago on the site. It was to remove a century-old tree. There are images where I swear the exterior of Scotia Place has the look of a cowboy hat. I was also hoping Rogers would have put their name on this place and call it 'Rogers Garden' or something like that. Meanwhile in Edmonton, they have to find a way to install over 50 more seats at Rogers Place to make it bigger than Calgary. It would be nice to see NBA in Calgary but it would be a scheduling disaster (sounds like the Vancouver Grizzlies) with the Flames, Wranglers (AHL), Roughnecks (NLL), and Hitmen (WHL) all playing in there. Look at all the food trucks parked outside the building. I wonder if the new Green Line C-Train will have direct access from the station (which is underground) to the arena?
