I cannot thank you enough! As a person who has been a heavy software user it was different coming from Reason and learning how to fully arrange a track. Scenes & patterns were a bit confusing but you did a good job explaining everything. Kudos sir!!!

hey there, Do you have any ice how to drag and drop multiple scenes into a DAW. I work with fairly long arrangements and at the moment i can't work out how to drag and drop multiple scenes to begin mixing within the DAW?? At the moment i only seem to be able to drag and drop one scene at a time, which is way too fiddly in a long arrangement . many thanks for any hall on this!

How would I do the arrangement if let’s say I started recording a scene that ended up being my chorus but it’s the first thing i recorded and then recorded what I want to be the verse after? So basically if you’re looking left to right it’s chorus/verse as opposed to verse/chorus and I’m trying to switch them around

What I still cant figure out is can insert the same scene on more than one spot. For example, if I have Scene 1 with a 4 bar pattern,then scene 2 with a 4 bar pattern in the arrangement. And lets saying going into the next scene I want to reinsert scene 1,can I do that? or do I have to create a new scene with the same pattern in order to get the arrangement from scene 1, where i want it?........................I hope not. That would be ridiculous if I have a 16 bars arrangement and simply just cant re-loop it if I wanted to

What is your thought on the master bus... I've read a lot of posts about not putting anything on the master, is this different for maschine? Or is it the type of effects and filters that make the difference such as limiters ? Thanks
@Adsrsounds
10 жыл бұрын
I just have some bus compression and the Waves L1 plugin. I'm not cranking either of the plugins, they are relatively transparent and just serve the purpose of bringing the overall levels up. I don't think it's good to always stay away from master FX. You have to be careful but some gentle effects can serve as some quick and dirty mastering.

Ur an excellent teacher, the only problem is the volume of ur voice, it's super hard to hear unless I have my volume all the way up. Agree, i dont understand why arranging as "scenes"...a timeline recording system (like any daw) is much easier and intuitive. Maybe this system theyve created is good for playing live and just jumping back and forth between ideas, but not very good when arranging a whole track..

Is there a reason to develop your scenes in 4 measure phrases rather than 8?
@Adsrsounds

Hexspa It depends on the project, I've started moving to longer patterns/scenes because I can record more variation within the loops. Just personal preference really!
@Hexspa
9 жыл бұрын
I thought the 4-bar pattern was neat since many musical phrases are 2 bars in length and sections are typically multiples of 8. Making patterns with 4 bars is a way to bridge the gap. Do you ever "play in" your arrangements into a DAW i.e. setting up armed audio tracks in a DAW and recording pattern changes "on-the-fly" for unique variations? I've been experimenting with that to good effect.

Hexspa Despite what a lot of people say about Maschine, I found that it can do everything I need for production. I really learned my way around the software and importantly the hardware as well, and the workflow clicked for me. I use Reaper when I compose and record orchestral/cinematic projects, but for beats and whatnot, it's hard to find something quicker and easier than Maschine standaone.
@Hexspa

Interesting. In the part 1 vid I recall you mentioning vocalists. Do you then bounce out the arrangement into a DAW for mixing? I find it irritating that, when using Maschine as a plugin, it's sequencer won't coincide with the host's; particularly if there's an odd-bar phrase in there. There's ways around that but it'd be nice to see Maschine's arranger mirror what's in the host.

Prince Butler Could be problems with playing on the beat grid - you could use quantize to help with that. Also make sure you don't have super high latency, that could lead to issues with timing. I had a lot of struggles with latency until I got a cheap external audio interface.

Thanks for tutorial. this was was helpful but, it's amazing that there is no single tutorial how to actually manage arrangement of whole track. How to move scenes around, create different versions of same track. NOTHING!. Absolutely zero information about that. I have long track. 7 min, about 50 scenes in total and it is absolute pain to re-arrange track in maschine. I know everybody does it in Ableton (apparently) but I want to do everything in maschine and maschine really sucks in this compartment. Why I cannot simply drag and drop patterns using mouse (they are blocks on screen so why I can't move them around using mouse?!) on the screen is pure mystery for me. Why I can't simply mark few patterns form a scene with mouse + shift (like with text or anything else on PC), CTR+C and CTRL+V them it is astonishing. This suck so much it is hard to understand why basic (software) editing options are not there (using mouse and copy and paste). So please, really please, make tutorial with finished track and many scenes and show me how can I re-arrange it quickly. All I found is either make new scene with + patterns (which creates multum of same scenes) and change new scene or you can move whole scene using knob BUT not particular patterns. There is absolutely NO tutorial how to re-arrange track in maschine. Move break here, verse here, add break here... nothing. Zero. Please help!

mikelo303 Another thing which I don't understand is adding scene with mouse. I can add new empty scene. How can I put already existing scene there (say nr 5)? I know you can change how you add scenes in options (by choosing + pattern) which creates new scene with + numbers. But say in the middle of the song where I have scene no.23 I want to put scene 5 again. How can I do it? Again. Tutorial about track arrangement would be great. This one is really about scene variations not track arrangement. Thanks.

mikelo303 It sounds like you have Maschine pretty well figured out and you've run into the arranging/song-mode limitations that many users experience. There is a strong voice for improving sequencing, patterns, and scenes for future Maschine updates. Personally, I do agree that the arranging is limited. I liked some aspects of 1.8 software better -- it was easier to select patterns without menu digging, stuff like that. You have some solid feature requests with the pattern dragging and copying. You can right click on the scene name and select insert to place a scene in the middle of the track. If you want to copy over patterns, I would just right click and duplicate the scene, then change whatever patterns you need to. You can drag and drop scenes to move them around in the timeline - just click and hold the scene name and move your cursor between two other scenes. Ctrl + drag and drop will create a new copy that you can place anywhere. Hope this helps!

***** Thanks. I read about it and yeah... Maschine is not really for arranging music. Thanks for tips, they help but still is like trying to drive monster truck in the city. Dragging patterns around it's most intuitive thing I can think of. That is what I tried first. Hover over a pattern, use shift to select few I like and move it with cursor, boy... I was surprised when I learned they are glued permanently and no way to move them. Anti-logic really. I hope they will add it. I'll write to them about that.
