The Ordinary's 10% niacinamide is surprisingly amazing for my super sensitive skin. I worked up to using it every day by first applying it every other day on wet skin (to dilute it), then every other day on dry skin, then finally every day on dry skin. It is amazing for my combination oily skin and redness. I also use it on my chest because I used to get mild keretosis there and it cleared it up.

@AayushiSharma111 the niacinamide is meant to reduce the redness I already have haha. So it is not causing it. But the ingredient is meant to reduce redness and give you a more even skint one. So I am asking if with 10 percent het redness(that she already previously had, like I have) has reduced.

Everyone's skin is different, I'm also convinced that formulation and so called 'inactive' ingredients play a bigger role in reactions than people realise. Other things include individual skin factors where you have to be in tune with your skin changes on a daily to weekly basis. There are days or weeks I can tell I need to skip certain actives and just use a simple moisturiser. Listen to your skin, don't just plough through with products each day and not reassess. Other things include what serums you're layering with, and what inactives in other serums you might be reacting to alongside the one you're trying...but even allowing for that, some brands' formulations will suit certain individuals better than others. There's too many factors at play at any given time when it comes to skincare and human bodies. Generic advice will not cover all the nuance we have as individuals, there is no one size fits all.

A really good tip for this is if you can find a lip balm that has SPF in it you can actually place that around your eye rather than your regular SPF then just go in around that with your favourite sun protection this was a recommendation from a dermatologist she recommended Vani cream lip balm I thought that was such a weird thing but it doesn’t run into the eyes like other products can if your eyelids are on the oil your side! And I love the unseen sunscreen to it’s my favourite I hate the way SPF looks on my skin that this stuff is amazing apparently Trader Joe’s puts out a dupe for supergoop and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper I plan on trying it soon! Apparently, it's pretty common for niacinamide (and niacin) to cause redness in some people. I used a 10% niacinamide serum; it didn't exactly inflame me, but it did dry me out for a day. I still use it, just in smaller doses & with lots of moisturizer, it's fine now, but that first time was...something interesting. XD You gotta be careful with that shit. Example #2: I used to drink Niacin/vitamin B3 vitamins, and sometimes (about 3 cases out of 4) they made my face turn all red and slighly burning for about half an hour or so; which is apparently a common reaction. They even sell "no red face" B3 vitamins on iHerb, lol.

Lower percentages of niacinamide do NOTHING for me. 10% did NOTHING. 15% did NOTHING. 20% did WONDERS for my skin!! I used each one for well over a month am and pm, gave a fair chance. Currently I use Paula's choice 20% niacinamide because I like the thinner formula since I'm so oily, but I even bought a $12 20% niacinamide from Amazon and even that one gave me the same results. So if this is true then explain that. So i don't think this is true. Yes niacinamide is irritating to some, but I think most people can tolerate it just fine, that doesn't mean they shouldn't make high percentages because there's people like me out here that depend on it! If anyone's curious what my results were, I'm very oily, red, and have large congested pores. After a good 3-4 weeks of using 20% niacinamide my skin is much less red, almost not at all, my pores are a bit "cleaner" looking and my skin looks overall more even. I've had many people ask what I'm doing.. so its not a placebo effect. I'm sure it helps with oil some but for me nothing ever helps enough as ill always be greasy, im 41 and still greasy. The other percentages did not do this for me.
@maalikserebryakov
3 ай бұрын
Since ur old its obvious why the lower percentages didn’t fo anything for you. You will probably never read about this anywhere else except an advanced biochemistry text, but the way niacinamide works is by getting converted into Niacinamide Mononucleotide, and then into Niacinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) Which accelerates the skin cell’s energy output. But when you age two things happen: (1) Niacinamide -> NMN -> NAD sliws down _MASSIVELY_ your conversion rates are less than half when you where 20. (2) You probably have a roughened stratum corneum. Make sure to use a superficial skin peel once or twice a year. It helps skin serums penetrate easier.
@EstiSara
3 ай бұрын
@maalikserebryakov since I'm old? Lol, what an interesting way of saying that. I'm actually aware of how it works (generally speaking) but that doesn't negate the entire point of my comment which was that higher percentages do have a place in the market and some people benefit from them. Also, as an esthetician I can assure you my stratum corneum is glassy smooth like a babbling brook 🤣. With the use of tretinoin, niacinamide, and the fact that I can do professional grade peels on myself whenever I fancy I can't say that I've had a rough stratum corneum in years.. but thanks

Math tells me that if you use 1 mg of the 3% and 1 mg of the 5% it should be comparable to using 2 mg of 4% concentration. But it might depend on the products' formulations whether it's good or bad. Still you are in the range so I wouldn't worry about that.
