Nick and the seeds are amazing and the really nasty stuff is from the birthday party days which are badass punk blues tracks like Nick the stripper, release the bats or mutiny in heaven, as for the seeds stuff like the mercy seat about a man about to be executed by the electric chair that Johnny Cash did a cover of, or there is a whole album he did called Murder ballads with tracks like Stagger lee, where the wild roses grow, the curse of Millhaven, or his garage rock side project grinderman is also extremely badass. There is a reason he is the godfather of goth, that being said they are also capable of making songs of great beauty and love like into my arms, O Children which was used in the last Harry Potter, or Breathless or the original goth wedding song called the ship song. As you can tell i am a bit of a fan and they are a magnificent live act

I agree. He is both brilliant and prolific. Many bands can be prolific without ever being brilliant, and many bands can be brilliant on occasion without being able to follow it up, but Nick Cave can do both. Love all phases of his music.

'Red Right Hand' is not about a sneaky person but the vengeful Angel of God/or Satan.....who could be very sneaky?......but it also about control and power, about being able to give and also take away. Quite an eerie song and just appropriate for Halloween. Thank you guys.

I saw him live when I was in my early 20's. I was off my face on party drugs after getting ejected from another venue and happening across this one in a small jazz venue in Australia. I sat in the corner, smoking cigarettes and sipping scotch for his extended 3 hour show and was in pure ecstasy. It was amazingly moving music. Played old school blues style - back to the crowd - all that stuff. There would have been less than 100 people in the club too. The intimacy made all the difference. This was the same time that he was banging Kylie Minogue, so the gig had to have been unannounced. He was playing stadiums at the time.

"You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan, designed and directed by his red right hand." That line kills me every time, top 10 best one liners in music in my book. He wrote an Australian western called The Proposition that is incredible and I highly recommend, and this song has beats and notes that I heard as I was watching it. Nick Cave's writing is second to none, and I've never met a girl who knew who he was that did have a huge crush on him. He is a quiet killer.

The first and last time I heard this song was in the first part of the film Scream, at the very beginning of the trilogy, although I was young then, but I remembered the melody then, usually good melodies are remembered in famous films or advertising, there was a lot of this in the 80s and 90 years old.

I'm a big fan of Nick Cave. He does mention that this isn't one of his favourite songs that he's done, but it's been good to him. I think he has done better songs, but I still like it. I love the lyrics and the musicianship is very good.

Great start. Nick Cave's songs not all like this though many are dark. Another great Halloween one is The Curse Of Millhaven from Murder Ballads, about a child killer. As in the child is the killer. Also worth watching is the live Higgs Boson Blues from Glasgow Hydro with Nick and the 'boom boom boom' guy. It's on here.

I wish they'd do: ELO (Twilight and Shine a Little Love), George Benson (Turn Your Love Around), Kansas (Play the Game Tonight), Robbie Neville (C'est La Vie), Ambrosia (You're the Only Woman), and Basia (Time and Tide, and Cruising for Bruising), all fantastic 80's songs, although Shine a Little Love is 70's.

Dammit, Nick. I went into this video FULLY expecting to hate this song. I don’t. All these songs that you bring in that I shouldn’t like, but I do, are taking me out of my comfort zone. I actually thought this was pretty darn good. Never heard it before. I tried watching Peaky Blinders once but couldn’t get into it, so I wasn’t even familiar with it through that TV show. I watched Rosemary’s Baby this weekend so I am in a Halloween mood. A great one for the marathon would be the theme from The Exorcist, Tubular Bells. I don’t know how I did it but I did see that movie. And this song gives me huge Halloween creeps.

I've heard of Nick Cave over the years, but I never heard any of his music that I'm aware of...until I heard this song last year in the movie The Lost City with Sandra Bullock, Tatum Channing, Daniel Radcliffe, and Brad Pitt. I like the sneaky, menacing feel of it. You should check out Little River Band after you've finished your Halloween marathon. They're another Australian band that was big in the 70s and 80s. Their music is right up your alley, I believe. Some of their great songs are It's a Long Way There, Reminiscing, Cool Change, Lady, Help is on the Way, Lonesome Loser, and Man on Your Mind.

Halloween marathon? It might be too jazzy, but try Gretchen Parloto, "juju". Or, you probably already know, Atlanta rhythm section, "spooky". The firm, "Cadillac". Truthfully it's not scary, but if were thrown in with other songs it might fit. The music has the mood. Maybe if you think of the Cadillac as a hearse. The police, "shadows in the rain" and "behind my camel". "Behind my camel" is a weird title i know, and it has no lyrics, but the music sounds like it could be from s scary movie. Sorry, they keep coming to me. Donovan, "season of the witch".
