As told in the Skin Too Few doc, Nick had trouble playing live mainly due to his many odd tunings (with not enough pre-tuned guitars at the ready) and getting discouraged about people not being quiet and listening. When you couple that with his chronic depression it's easy to see why he'd have problems. In my opinion he was a misunderstood genius, but without actually knowing the man it's hard to tell. Sure wish he was still around......

I heard Nick's song in a recent AT&T commercial. Yes!! He deserves much more recognition :)

I agree! It seems very odd to leave this outtake in the film. Apart from that, the memories, discussions, and impressions of people who knew him are well worth ones attention. A vauable contribution to the story of Nick.

Nick wrote his own life story with the song Fruit Tree. "They'll stand and stare, when you're gone..."

I like N.D's music so naturally I will look here for material about him. I reserve the right to do that and subsequently comment just as everyone commenting here has. As Dylan said: "sometimes you stop and look down a side street- and the you keep going".

Its a shame how neglected the grave of Nick and his parents looks like. Are there no more relatives who could take care of it or at least pay the cemetery administration for doing it? Its really heartbreaking.

that depends on your definition of failure! Do you mean in a technical sense, or that they cannot exactly capture the atmosphere of the originals? Neither is absolutely necessary: the main thing is, plenty of people do good versions of Nick's songs.

Poor Nick....if only he could have been a better songwiter. He couldn't write catchy tunes. Now Danny Whitten, there's a troubled genius who could write a nice catchy song that others covered. Go to any college in he country, you'll find half a dozen people who could write little songs like Drake's - little personal songs with funny guitar tunings, but nothing that really would have troubled the pop charts. If Nick hadn't died so young he'd have given up music and been a green keeper in Surrey.

Pathetic: 1. Causing or evoking pity, sympathetic sadness, sorrow, etc.; pitiful; pitiable: a pathetic letter; a pathetic sight. whereas you're thinking 4. Miserably or contemptibly inadequate: In return for our investment we get a pathetic three percent interest.

@Ldale11 dont get me wrong, i love his music, and it suits the moods everyone gets now and again, but imagine creating that music, that vibe would just stick with you man and it be like a constant depression or something, or maybe its the other way around. obviously some people are a bit too sensitive!! pull yer braces up and get a grip, as old people sometimes say.

How anyone can think that this is a good documentary is beyond me! An insult to the genius that is Nick Drake. I am dumbfounded that Kirby and Boyd (and Gabriella!) are involved in this. Baffling. Buy the man's records and throw this in the garbage.
