I love your point about teachers in the States. My sister is a teacher in Indiana and she told me that she still needs to buy supplies for her students. The patience and love that this woman has for people is insane, she took on the role of special education and takes the time to understand where her students are at rather than trying to fit them into a mold that the school systems seem to want. A good teacher can make someone's life better and we must recognize them for the work that they do.

Isn't the Matt Walsh Walrus thing because he made a book about a kid trying to transition into a Walrus? Maybe I'm wrong and it predates that, but I feel like it's just because of that and because writing a book doing the Attack Helicopter meme is his only real creative accomplishment he held onto it and he's desperate to make the walrus a 'thing'. Like he's desperate to make it an in-joke for his audience but nobody really cares, so it's just this weird symbol he keeps using that people don't really understand.

The culture is so goddamn awful that I've felt more accepted in Alabama (where I went to college) than I did in my hometown. I really appreciate your perspective (that of a queer adult in the more rural PNW region). So many people stereotype the PNW as either Portland and Seattle or unredeemable, and I feel like a lot of left-leaning content creators in America ignore rural areas entirely; you're the only content creator I've found that represents my upbringing. As usual I don't tend to catch these streams when they happen... but this one was kind of an odd and interesting one that I do want to comment on. First... wow, there were a lot of random side tangents in this one. We had stuff on Bionicle, dumpster diving restoration, social/political discourse on how we're kind of screwed as a society mostly due to capitalism, Legos figures, Neca(?) figures, cosplay ideas, and more. It was rather humors and entertaining though (don't want to make it sound like I'm bitching about it). As to Fuentes basically being a gay man who can't accept that he is a gay man, to borrow a line from Futurama: "I'm shocked, SHOCKED! Well... not that shocked." I mean the man did try for awhile to wear the type of mustache that was very much in vouge for gay men in the 70's. As you pointed out there have been many signs over the years. And who doesn't love Elvira. I'm not sure I can trust someone who doesn't love Elvira or see Cassandra Peterson as the completely charming and wonderful person that she is. Of course now I need to dig out my copy of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark for a long overdue rewatch. I mean it is god awfully campy, but in such a delightful way.

As a vaush fan (yes he does sometimes say dumb af shit yes I know many of y'all probably hate the man soz) I reaaaally wish that you had one of those folks in the comment sections like his who could do super specific timestamps. fingies crossed someone stumbles by ok the rest will be long lol sorry i lov u professor deaddomain i cannot lie as a diagnosed autistic person the 'to be sorted folder' voosh had does make sense lmao. i sort literally everything into folders because my brain does not function without that. everything from porn to like categorizing screenshots. i also think it's fine for folk to like shortstacks since i do think it's unfair for genuinely shortstacked adult women to often get called bait etc. for being sexual like anyone else; personally i like tall af freaks but being afab transmasc i have definitely been treated like i'm doing something wrong for being sexual just because i might look on the younger side. that said. THAT SAID. i think in general hentai culture is just absolute garbage and that manga art styles are 95% of the time both stupid and creepy. i don't think everyone into it is a creep or anything, considering that'd be like. a Lot of people nowadays. but i do think that the fact that in so much manga styled art shortstack women and teen girls are often portrayed almost exactly the same is a gross af problem. frankly even so many tall adult female characters in anime and manga still wind up looking ridiculously young due to the artists choosing to give them childlike features typical of the art style. can't count the amount of times i've seen someone either assume a character was a child only to discover they were an adult, or to assume they were an adult only to discover they were a child, because anime art style is often so shit and grossly fetishistic of women and girls that it fails to distinguish between the two 95% of the time. so basically i think what i'm saying is actually the problem imo is just flat out that manga and anime styles are horrible portrayals of characters that usually fail to make them anything but carbon copies of one another, and now that it's become more mainstream there's gonna be a wild influx in people not having a clue how to distinguish adults vs kids in that art. not saying we should like abolish hentai or the art styles or whatever, but i do think that the genre needs to be cracked down on and forced to, idk, make better character designs? learn to draw adults vs teens? there needs to be infinitely more pressure on mangakas and other artists to learn how to draw adults who aren't fetishized in childlike ways. smaller eyes, different facial structures, etc. i think vaush's fuckup there (and by golly do i think he has legit fuckups elsewhere, such as basically blatantly encouraging chat to self immolate to become heroes that one time lmao) was less of a one guy fuckup thing and more of a "holy shit hentai is incredibly popular currently despite not portraying women correctly at all to the point where you can flat out mistake them for kids, we need to discourage some of these art styles and probably hentai culture as a whole" i do think he is cringe for liking hentai at all tho. look not to say there aren't great artists out there making clearly adult looking characters with fantastic shading, etc. my heart goes out to them they are singlehandedly keeping the styles afloat. but speaking as someone who was a big weeb as a teen, like a majority of hentai (and manga tbh) is SO poorly drawn (both style wise and just... element wise) and fails narratively, visually, and especially sexually. it's like the least attractive kind of nsfw art 99% of the time, especially in an age where there are so many amazing patreon and twitter creators with wonderful art styles producing stuff 100x the quality on every level. i feel like it's like someone actively choosing to look at like... nsfw clipart. like bro all ur waifus look like the same person in different wigs and none of them have any anatomical correctness to the degree where style cannot explain the lack of artistic understanding away!!! no hate to people who are into hentai, i do not think you are creeps or anything, again i think the genre tends to wind up making it difficult to figure out any details about characters. but like sweety ur better than that stuff,, you deserve better art and stories!!! feel i'm gonna start a war with weebs over it but i was once a weeb and i stand by this so very hard. it's rarely good art. there is better art. hell go look at webtoons made in similar styles by artists who actually do know what they're doing!!
@kropotkinnie
4 ай бұрын
additionally fun fact the reason i actually stopped being a weeb was that by the time i was 13 and still female presenting it became more and more uncomfortable to be in anime/manga spaces at all, because everyone, even my friends, had developed really weird ideals about women. it was genuinely so offputting to be growing up as an afab person and seeing tropes like male protagonists falling headfirst into female characters' boobs, or flat out forms of sexual assault being treated as comedy because haha it's a woman so it's just fanservice. and it was even more offputting for literally everyone around me, even my female friends into it, to defend that as just a mild flaw in manga culture, or just a style choice. i know manga has come a ways from there, being 22 now, but i basically stopped being a weeb as a kid while transitioning because it made me feel like as an afab person my only role in life was a weird sexualized one where i could only be cutsie or shy and had to be eye candy. just a garbage culture, at least at the time. maybe things r better now. i know a lotta popular animes now are pretty good abt it, and i still have animes i love despite some flaws, like wolf's rain, but... yeah.

Oof yeah I have vague memories of pre-Trump/juuuuust post-Trump Glenn Beck. I grew up Mormon and they do "Youth Conferences" where kids 14-18 all get together and do activities & church shit, and my area started doing regional Youth Conferences (a BUNCH of youth groups in a region, not just your congregation & a few others nearby) every few years around the time my family moved there. I believe it was the 2015 one where Beck was the keynote speaker at the very beginning of the day, and I remember feeling *deeply* uncomfortable about whatever he was talking about. IIRC, he was talking about his, like, personal collection of Mormon memorabilia? And was discussing a book that people *usually* use as proof *against* the Book of Mormon as if it *supported* it. And then also around that time iirc he did a Christimas concert with MCO (Millennial Choir & Orchestra), which my mom and a couple siblings were a part of, where he talked about his su!cidality as part of his faith story/testimony (fully support talking about mental health openly & honestly but it still felt a bit odd) and pushed his charity that supposedly got Christians out of "dangerous situations" in the Middle East. I think he mentioned white g3noc!de too, if not by name then by implication, b/c I remember looking it up after I got home and feeling, again, *deeply* uncomfortable about it. I'm sure I and/or my family still have his Christmas book kicking around somewhere b/c we got. Like. 5 free copies lol

But if you do this for that long and you actively piss people off that much, you're going to make enemies. I don't know what he could have done, but this shit was always going to be held against him in bad faith and it feels like it's REALLY shined a light on who actually looks into their claims and who doesn't, because some people I genuinely liked just started repeating actual lies and blatant BS and it's absolutely colored my opinions of them.

Like it was just one or two drawn images, which is pretty whatever. But because the guy's made A LOT of enemies it got blown out of proportion. To put things into perspective, this is the type of guy who called out Luna Oi, debated her husband, and when her husband was like "You offended my wife" Vaush straight-up said "Good! I was trying to insult her." before ending the argument by making Nazi points at the guy to troll how bad his ideology is at explaining things. Vaush can be VERY inflammatory at times. Essays might be far more explained and in-depth, but you need to get your foot in the door first. Appreciate the essays & the streams and im not the biggest Divorcelli fan but dont get into the he only reads wiki meme space, he does more than that and the lack of good meaningful debaters on the far left gave rise 2 him so can anyone be mad if he just saw an opprtunity and took it.

I'm mad he defends Kyle Rittenhouse and then Israel's genocide because he comes up with a stance before researching and THEN justifies that stance through research... That man should not have anyone's respect Idgaf about his antisocial tendencies his political views are deplorable. Who u choose to argue against says a lot more about your world view than what you claim to believe in

Sorry but Destiny is one of the most intelligent people on the left. I don’t care that he’s an a hole to people who misrepresent him, I care that he’s one of the only left leaning people who regularly debates right wing loons. Everyone else who’s left-leaning on the internet is a radical extremist so far gone ideologically that they don’t even engage with the others sides arguments.

Love a "Left-leaning" ideologue who constantly calls himself a liberal, and decided on a whim to defend the ethnostate of Israel. Love my genocide denying divorced gamer 💕

Omg finally somebody speaking truth to power I loved when he invited Nick Fuentes to his house and baked treats for the rabid anti-Semite who wants to eradicate black people and enforce subservient slave-like relationships with underage girls, I'm just so glad he could broadcast to his large audience of predominantly edgy, socially isolated teenagers that it's ok to hold these views as even your best friend (streamer) will choose to associate with them.

Destiny getting into trash TV style shouting matches with insane people on the internet does not make him some revolutionary figure. Most people do not need to see that to support beliefs that are counter to those narratives. Destiny is not winning elections or union battles or impacting families across the country dealing with the massive surge of dogmatic, seething right wing indignation. He has a large audience and occasionally does entertaining and informative debates against some genuinely fucked up people, and he has done some awesome organizing work to help with elections! Nothing wrong with that. He is also not Jesus, tf is with the sycophantic shit going on with DGG? He is a streamer. Fucks sake y'all, keep it in perspective Destiny has also dedicated a massive amount of his time cultivating a disturbingly shallow hot take posse of attention starved weirdos who clamor over one another to say something outrageous for the sake of "content". Being the voice of reason in a room of soulless cowards shrieking terrible shit into the void does not make him the savior of the left. It can help people! And it can be a fun car crash to watch him navigate, but the gravity of this is massively overstated to the point of absurdity Tldr, get off the cross bud, you're embarrassing yourself

What do you mean by radical extremist? How do you define that term? What views do you feel are so radical? Also pretty sure people like Hassan and Sam Seider have asked for debates with people on the right and they chicken out. Destiny must be so smart it relaxes them! 😂
