Reflecting on the counseling session I witnessed between Nick and Brianna, my initial reaction centers on the handling of confidentiality and the explanation provided regarding situations where information might be disclosed without consent. Specifically, Nick's comment, "Legally I WOULD have to talk to them if you were an imminent threat to yourself or others," raises concerns due to its potential for misinformation. This statement inaccurately suggests that the counselor would directly inform the client's parents in cases of imminent harm, misrepresenting the legal and ethical obligations of mental health professionals. The correct approach involves contacting the appropriate authorities or emergency services in these instances, who would then handle any necessary notifications, including informing family members if appropriate. This oversight in explaining confidentiality could lead to misunderstandings about the confidentiality boundaries and might deter clients from sharing sensitive information for fear of unwarranted disclosure to their parents. As a client, hearing this incorrect explanation of confidentiality protocols would likely make me feel apprehensive and less secure within the therapeutic environment, causing me to question the counselor's grasp of confidentiality and its exceptions. It highlights the critical need for mental health professionals to articulate the nuances of confidentiality and its limits with precision and accuracy, ensuring clients are thoroughly informed and feel comfortable within the therapeutic framework. Moreover, while Nick makes efforts to establish rapport and encourages Brianna to discuss her experiences, the session lacked a structured approach and proactive strategies for managing panic attacks. Introducing evidence-based interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, relaxation exercises, or mindfulness, could have provided Brianna with tangible support for her anxiety and panic symptoms. Equipping Brianna with specific coping tools to manage her panic attacks outside the counseling sessions would enhance her ability to control her symptoms more effectively. In terms of addressing Brianna's future and career concerns, the session showed empathy but did not deploy a strategic approach to navigate her feelings of uncertainty and inadequacy. As a counselor, I would have focused on developing a more comprehensive action plan, incorporating goal-setting, deeply exploring her values and interests within her field, and possibly introducing career counseling resources or services. This targeted strategy could serve to mitigate some of Brianna's anxieties related to her future, breaking down her broader concerns into smaller, more manageable decisions and tasks. In conclusion, as a client, the misinformation conveyed about confidentiality could erode my trust in the counseling process, making me hesitant to fully engage. As a counselor, I recognize the importance of accurately communicating information about confidentiality, implementing structured interventions for anxiety, and providing practical guidance for addressing future-related anxieties as essential elements to be emphasized differently in the counseling session.

How so? It would be better and probably more mature to give constructive criticism other than a comment like this.
