I maintain that Nickelback does not deserve the hate they get. Their music isn't revolutionary or anything, but it's not bad. It's pretty middle of the road pop rock. What's more, everything I've seen from people that have met them personally says they're just a great bunch of guys in general. I knew a guy who worked back stage at the stadium in my city, setting up and tearing down various events. He said there was only one time they pretended to not recognize a celebrity when they came to the back door and that was Nickelback, and they were really good humored about it. They were also incredibly polite, please and thank you for everything, and they kept apologizing for asking for stuff because they didn't want to be a burden to the people who were being paid specifically to bring them stuff.

I'm pretty indifferent to their music; if it's on I'll listen to it but I won't go out of my way to find it. But there are some truly awful people making legitimately terrible music and they deserve the hate far more than these guys. Everything I've heard about them suggests that they're just a great bunch of guys to know. Rush is apparently another band like that. Some great guys who just love what they do.

I know of plenty of indie rock bands that have stuff like trumpets in them or plenty of backup singers but none sound like this. I think it may be the singing as Chad Kroeger's voice sounds so much better in the version maybe its that slight auto-tune I hear, but it's more likely that something about those great back up singers and the newer feel fits his voice more than rock ever did. Interesting fact for this song: Ray Charles and Chad Kroger frequented a gentlemen's club. They were band mates at the time. They had a favorite server who was already friendly to both of them. Both Ray and Chad fancied that server and wanted to date her. This rivalry caused a schism in their friendship. It showed in this music. Tipping back then were not as high as we see today. It was usually in amounts of nickles and dimes. When the server ultimately decided to date Ray instead of Chad, that server gave Chad back his tips, a nickle, as a sign that she had chosen Ray over him. That ended the relationship between Ray and Chad. Chad went off to create his own band in memoriam of this event, Nickelback.

He was probably helped out by the fact that the vocalist of Nickleback, Chad Kroeger, intentionally keeps a steady consistent tone and pitch through out his songs. So that he can focus on the delivery, and so that he can consistently give the same performance time after time. What this means, is that all of a his vocal lines for any particular song will generally have a consistent tone and pitch. So its a lot easier to Isolate his voice and manipulate it by bending then pitch. In contrast, some one like Chester Bennington or Brandon Urie won't be quite so easy to isolate or manipulate

Man, the only thing that's ruined, is it needs to be MUCH LONGER! I listen to this all the time! Thank you for this one!!

Altering chord progressions with a DAW is a skill that still mystifies me. One day I'll figure it out, and when I do, I hope to be half this good. This is very well done!

I consider this incontrovertible evidence that Nickelback is better than we all gave them credit for... ....and I feel some kind of way about that....

I can't get this out of my head so I finally went back to listen to the Nickelback original and remind myself how garbage it actually is. You didn't just mix them, you created something completely new and it's genius. I want a full length version of this so badly so I can put it in my standard rotation.

Nickelback is the single most underrated band of all time. Long live Nickelback!

Not a big Ray Charles fan, but I do like a few of his songs. Love Nickleback. And this mashup is pure gold.
Well, I already liked Nickelback, so there. 😝 Also, this was incredible and I think we really need a full version of this with Nickelback getting permission and making the video!

Today is the *1* year anniversary of when "Nickelback and Ray Charles were not supposed to mix this well" was uploaded! You didn't ruin anything. This was golden, dude! 🤓➡️😆👌

I like that this sort of creates an understandable story. Like the background singers and his memories of his girlfriend breaking up with him

I showed this to my husband, who hates Nickleback (I do not, for the record), and even he said it works reallt well. "It's good and I hate it." So even he admitted it works!
