Eurovision Winner Nicole in 1982 This song reflects my hopes for the world. The spirit of the song has been taken up by Emma Kok, see • Andre Rieu und Emma Ko... .
She was just seventeen when she did this. In the early round she sang just in German, so when she switched languages in the reprise shown here she won lots of extra supporters all over Europe.

Thanks for this. From 1977 to 1999 the Eurovision rules were that entries had to be in one of the official languages of that country. The reprise is wonderful, I remember it well. I live in Kiev since 2006 as a result of visiting the 2005 final. Ireland still tops with 7 wins but they're so long ago. Riverdance still going though.

There are no words for this but I'll try. Simply outstanding. A 3 minutes song about peace with those amazing changes of language says everything about how mankind could live together. And she learned all the languages and was ready to do this without even knowing if she would win. And then, live in front of millions she absolutely nails it. That can only come from the heart. For me, one of the most powerful moments on TV. Right up there with the coverage of Nelson Mandela walking from jail to freedom. Bravo.

They are all singing the backing in German if you listen. She really wanted to sing it in the other languages for the audience. Back then Europe was not so multi-lingual as now. I cannot help feeling it was a moment in which the hand of friendship was reached out (Falklands war and nuclear rearmament with no end to the iron curtain in sight as backdrop). 12 points from Israel and a 66 point winning margin. Spontaneously switching languages was a key moment, perhaps we suddenly noticed that we had so much more in common. This all from a 17 year old girl.

Gearing up for the Eurovision Song Contest marathon across the BBC tonight. It can't be the same, but I can live with a night of repeats of glory days, enjoying the vibe. I’m with Graham Norton; “It’s almost impossible, I think, to explain Eurovision to someone who doesn’t know what it is or hasn’t seen it before because you’ve got to know how it got to where it is today.....”. I'm a firm BREXIT supporter and I stand by my beliefs that we're stronger as an independent UK, but I am kinda sad that the rest of Europe will never let us win the competition again because of way our vote unfolded. But I will always love Eurovision regardless. This will always remain one of the finest Eurovision moments ever.
