Of all the American women skaters competing in the 1990s, I feel like Nicole Bobek was the only one who could have trained to be competitive under 2018 standards. Yamaguchi, Kerrigan, Harding, Kwan, Lipinski, Trenary, Kwiatkowski... I don't think any of those would have it in them. Nicole is the only one who moved like this, had tremendous jump height capable of 3/3s and hit complicated spin positions anything like what we're seeing now. She was just wildly inconsistent. One day she was a star skater, the following competition she skated like she had taken up the sport 2 weeks prior. Her entire career. It's a damn shame that her life took one of the hardest roads after retirement. She really did have a great star quality about her.

I remember watching this as a kid and being mesmerized: I hadn't really heard of Nicole Bobek before World Champs but I taped the gala (the days of VHS!) and kept watching her performance over and over again. Each gesture is still so familiar decades later. Absolutely stunning. Thanks for posting this video!

Nicole was so beautiful and so talented. The fact that she did a triple flip here at an exhibition showed how talented she was. Beautiful program.

Funny he says the word "surprised" just as her music starts, and she seemed almost but not quite ready for it. I thought they usually had a little beep or something before the music started so the skater could anticipate the first note? Especially for a song that starts so abruptly and calls for a strong opening... everything else in this program is superb.

So many absolutely beautiful, smooth and intense moves, especially after the biellman spin at 2:2ß. Why ruin it with such an appealing ending?

She was the beautiful blonde version of Katarina Witt. The only problem was that she was lazy with training, had that not been so she would have dominated her era and been top 5 all time.

Great to see these skaters again. But in 1995 how come she was allowed to have words with her music? I thought that was a fairly recent change.

Was that insult really necessary, tytytyty? You could just have said it's an exhibition, not a competition.
