Only black people with the ‘correct’ opinion are allowed on his show. You won’t see the likes of Thomas Sowell, Burgess Owens, Jason Riley, Larry Elder, Brandon Tatum or Charles Blain invited to speak. And this is why so many Americans exist in an echo chamber of consenting opinions.

@@OBWAT I also feel like he would've been more impartial in the 90s/00s. He would've cracked a joke when she said "I think *most black people* have had a rough week" because it's like, how can *she* speak for *most* black people? It's just a sad reflection of the times. I wouldn't expect Conan to stand up and be authentic. That's simple too much pressure, even for him.

She said she has aunts that remember segregation. People who are not of retirement age, too young to receive SSI, remember segregation. We lived it. To attend middle school my older siblings had to travel to the next city. There were no buses. In Metro areas due to redlining there still was no segregation. The Civil Rights Act 1964, The Voting Rights Act 1965 and Fair Housing Act 1968 were signed but extremely slow in being enforced and still MUST be enforced. Prior to 1964 Black had NO rights. Therefore, if you are around 56 or younger and Black you were born without rights. Look around. We remember. Vividly.

I've seen a few sources say we are as segregated as back then. We are more segregated now than we have been in decades. That's obviously not helpful to nurturing empathy, and when we're not aware of it, when it's not obvious, it's harder to perceive or understand.

A few bad apples spoils the bunch, all the apples went bad, No Apple pie, No Apple fritters. No Apple butter, No Apple sauce, No Candied Apples, No Apple slices to dip, .........no-one cared. They spoiled, the orchard rotted,.....All that was left was a poised field with dead apple trees. Got clear the field re-plow it and plant NEW Seeds. Better seeds,.....Seeds that don't produce fruit that goes rotten so easily.

Exactly. All it takes is one bad cop in a position of power, for that to slowly infect others. Because a bad cop in power will hire likeminded people. Partly because their unconscious bias will draw them towards others like them, but also as a sort of security measure. If you are doing bad things on your job, if you surround yourself with underlings who are also doing bad things, you aren’t all going to tell on each other. You’re going to cover for them because you all have dirt on the other, but also because you’re all likeminded. It puts good cops in a bad position. They either have to join in with the corruption or shut their mouth about bad policing, or leave. I’ve been hearing so many stories of ex-cops who quit because of the corruption they’ve seen, and were unsuccessful when reporting other cops.

People who say, "Look at that fatty," don't deserve to look at your beautiful body anyway. I feel like anybody who criticizes anybody else's looks should have their vision suspended for a week. Anybody who criticizes somebody else's idea of physical appeal should have their vision suspended for a week. Anybody who discriminates against somebody else based on looks should have their vision suspended for a month. - Some asshat tried to make fun of me for thinking Aidy Bryant was pretty, but then, whenever I compliment Kristen Bell, Demetria Obilor, or Cecilia Lion, I get complete silence. It's so sad to see the hatred "overweight" people get on a regular basis.

She is so funny and radiant...and her skin is flawless! I love so many things about this interview (the body-less Abe Lincoln, the picture of the two of them together, Conan's disheveled hair that is never talked about) but mostly I love that these types of intimate, authentic interviews can come out of this pandemic and horrific time on Team Coco and everywhere; his live interviews, though lovely, don't have this kind of touch. Also, I learned something new in this black lives matter movement and will work even harder to be a black ally and activist. Love you, Nicole and Conan!

Her point about healthcare is extremely valid. I would say that what she's talking about is an extension of the way doctors treat people who they consider less worthwhile, or less credible, than others. And also the way they treat people who lack confidence in themselves in terms of expressing what's wrong with them, or people who lack the confidence to push their way to the front of the queue. Or just poor people, people with mental health problems like depression and anxiety. It's a kind of awful, kakfa-esque horror-pretzel that you often get treated worse the worse your mental health is. The more severe your mental health problems are, the more doctors tend to treat you like an object rather than a human, the more likely they are to disregard what you tell them, the less likely they are to bother making an effort, the more likely they are write you off. How fucked up is that? I'll answer. It's really, really fucked up. You get served up worse healthcare the more disadvantaged you are. The less need for healthcare you have, the better the healthcare you'll get. It is so utterly insane. And not always because of some kind of systemic, protocol-based thing that's written down, not even because of economic advantages: instead, doctors often treat you worse because of inbuilt human biases, biases that mean they disregard the opinions of less confident people, or disregard health problems that aren't immediately physically obvious, like severe depression or anxiety. Adding race into the mix, and the cultural assumptions that even fervently anti-racist healthcare practitioners inevitably make, is just a shitty cherry on top. Think about having all of the above...plus dealing with the racist assumptions of the doctors or nurses. It's hard for me to imagine.
