Stevie was the best electric guitar player ever IMHO, and he worked his ass off to get there and started at seven years old, he loved the blues, he lived the blues and every time he got on stage it was all or nothing, even sound check is impressive when it's Stevie doing it. Happy to see his legendary status continue to grow as people continue to be amazed after all these years. Like I've said for years, for a little guy he sure makes a big impression

I so wish the camera men of Hendrix's day knew where to put the camera! It was a thing back then that camera operators were literally told " they were the artists " and that anybody could just point the camera but it took an " artist " to work it. The results were no visuals of master guitarists not being seen half the time! Glenn P.S. With Ray Vaughn, the camera work was flawless.

I second "Life Without You" at Capitol Theatre. SRV has blown my mind since I first heard him, and that's easily one of his best live performances. Convinced me to buy a guitar a week after hearing his music, and I've fallen into the rabbit hole since. Solid reactions

Thanks for presenting this and reaction. Of course, “Voodoo Child” is Jimi Hendrix’ genius creation; but, a master guitarist like SRV is worthy of making it his own-a distinct and energetic version. My favorite song “Mary Had A Little Lamb” performed at this same show( Austin, TX, 1989) Perhaps you may present SRV classic blues performance at an intimate venue (‘Texas Flood’ at El Mocambo)

So awesome - a new convert! Speechless is pretty much the most normal reaction everyone has when first witnessing Stevie Ray. I am guessing you are thinking of going right to the gold down in El Mocambo and why not - it changed my entire life when I saw it. That was a fun reaction, ya'll be good.

If your ears can keep from getting wrapped up in and warped by SRV's man-handling of the notes, pay attention to the artistry of Tommy Shannon on bass (ex-Johnny Winter) and drummer Chris Layton (the two men who constitute "Double Trouble") -- with them, the song reaches another quantum level of enjoyment and awesomeness.

What really shows how much of a genuine down to earth good guy Stevie was. is when he,s on stage with his old blues guitar hero,s. He steps back and takes his foot off the gass out of respect if he wanted to he could make any guitarist look ordinary

Great introduction for your niece👏🙌💯 While this performance is great, and it is, his Toyko performance of this song is the most fun, creative, free flowing, and 15 minutes long! You owe it to both of yourselves to watch that as well even if you don't react. That is one of the great things about Stevie's playing is that he never plays the same song the same way ever. I don't consider Voodoo Child a "blues" song Stevie is known for his 💙🎸🎶💯. Texas Flood, Tin Pan Alley, etc. glad to hear you will do another one next week. I will be watching for it.👏🙌✌️

Interesting note: SRV and Bruce Lee were both part of a clinical analysis by University doctors, microbiologists, all them fuckers... and when reacting (lee) and improvising (Vaughan), the respective parts of their bodies, surpassed the universally accepted neurological speed limit of nerve signals of ~265-280 miles per hour (mph used here for context), by quite a bit - with Lee's at ~ 432 mph (avg. high), and Vaughan's at ~419 to 435 mph (avg. high). Though, single instances of both, then deemed abortions, were clocked between 650 and 690 (mph), (5 of those occurrences for Lee, 6 (with a possible 7th) for Vaughan). - In my opinion, as a long time admirer of both, this seems well reasonable. Thought I'd share with the fans.

Enjoyed your niece's reaction to SRV. Being from Austin I was fortunate to have seen Stevie Ray several times back in the day. I worked in the concert business for 23 years, and was lucky to meet him backstage at a Prince concert on the Purple Rain tour. He was extremely gracious. This show was recorded for Austin City Limits on PBS, the longest running music show in American television history. It was recorded at the old ACL studio in the Communications Building on campus at the University of Texas. If you want to see another phenomenal performance from this show, definitely check out "Tightrope"!!!
