Mansell had just broken the all-time record for Grand Prix wins by a British driver- he had won his 28th race, beating Jackie Stewart's old record. What a race for Mansell to do it at.

One of the greatest days of my life! I was at the front of the car when it stopped in the crowd,I got down and kissed the red five on the nose cone, unforgettable. I remember Murray giving us a bit of a bollocking on the tv later for invading the track, but these were great days.

I’m somewhere in that scrum around Mansell’s car. He stopped right opposite where we were standing, we surged forward and in seconds the car was surrounded. I got close enough to touch one of the rear tyres, but l’ve never been able to pick myself out in the crowd, despite the fact that l was wearing a bright green T-shirt. Many of the other cars were still racing and the crowd parted to allow them through. I can tell you that they were going a lot faster than they appear on film. I’m 63 now, but l still remember it well.

What an atmosphere! So many Union Jacks, a time when we were proud of our heritage. I can never EVER see these scenes happening again sadly. Nigel captured our hearts more than any other driver, in an era of real legends.

reds005 " So many Union Jacks, a time when we were proud of our heritage. I can never EVER see these scenes happening again sadly. " Yeah, I mean apart from every World Cup, European Championship, Jubilee, Royal Wedding, WWI / 2 anniversaries, Wimbledon, and all the other various sporting / celebratory events, you NEVER see people flying flags. Why do all these vintage sporting clips bring out the sad old farts moaning that the old days were better and that nowadays it's all gone to pot? Get a life, you saddo.

This was pure hero worship from the crowd for Mansell, just incredible to watch, he was an unbelievable driver and like Murray Walker said, he was one of the great overtakers, Hungary 89 and Mexico 90 spring to mind Was also nice of them to give Brundle an equally rapturous cheer for a well earned 3rd place

That's why they did not invade the track until after the finish line. Look at the vid. Nobody is on the track at Luffield or Priory, only half way round the lap (where all of the drivers on their last lap would have passed as Mansell was slowing down) did they go onto the track big time

British GP wont mean much this year, Jenson flying into the distance in his super car is not much better than Shumi or a Ferrari or McClaren flying into the distance, F1 is so boring this year I even wish the big two teams were on the pace, it was so promising with Brawn, Red Bull and Toyota fighting for the wins now its the most boring season in a long time.

Dream on mate,Mansell drove when there was PROPPER competition in PROPPER cars WITHOUT any driver aids or silly rules and hardly a safty car and beat everyone.Hamiltons been 'mommy codaled' by McLaren since he was 8,always been in the best car wherever and whatever series hes raced, hes had everything given him unlike the TRUE greats MANSELL,SENNA & the best of all SHUMACHER.Those 3 would of won last years F1 by miles and not by a lucky pass on the last corner of the last race in the rain!!!

Not quite as dangerous in football or golf though, is it? I mean yeah, you can get trampled to death. But there's a better chance of survivng human feet than there is of withstanding a carbon fibre tank travelling at a steady 180mph. What many Mansell Maniacs and Tifosi devotees forgot is that their hero may well have finished (even though they'll still be travelling at a fair pace), but other drivers finishing the race will still be doing full speeds. It's madness to do it in motor sport.
