Dr Apoki you always hit the nail on the head. I may disagree with lot of Islamic practices but one thing I admire about them is the way they deal with deaths. The person is wrapped up in simple clothing and buried within few days after death. I have told my family that when I pass, I want only close friends and family that actually knew me to gather, pray and bury me few days and at most few weeks after my death and move on. Although I could afford them but I do not want canopies, uniforms, radio or TV or newspaer announcement, no pomp and funfare. Just put me back to mother nature in simple basic wooden casket and move on and use whatever I left behind to look after the living.

This is not a Nigerian issue. It’s an African issue. We talk shit about black Americans on misguided priorities but we also have ours.Outlandish marriages and funerals, having more children than we can adequately take care of,rich people having too many children who divide his wealth upon his death instead of continuing the businesses, people giving their parents better funerals than better lives.etc. The white man will forever win. It’s so sad.

i wish somebody can forward this video to every person in Nigeria. Another topic I would want the Dr to discuss is the extended family system where every family member drops their problem on the feet of every young person that is doing financially well. The family is a great impediment to entrepreneurial development

What you said is right. In most African countries, especially Ghana and Nigeria, we spend needless time and money on the dead. Precious time and resources to help the living is spent on the dead. It appears we misplace our priorities hence the state of our countries. We love the dead more than the living. The worst is even they put the numerous celebration days of the dead on weekdays. Weekdays! Very shameful.

We are so quick to blame the government for everything, whereas everyone in government came out from a family. Misplaced priorities everywhere in this country. Everything you complain about the government, just check your family, work place, neighbourhood, and see the exact same thing miniature. On this base alone I weep for this country

Sir, with all due respect, stop telling your children not to do befitting burial for you when you are done on earth by the grace of God, you deserve an expensive burial because you played your role very well, you fulfill destiny and you impacted lives,we will not let your children give you a common man's burial because you are not one,if they refused,we your friends by the grace of God will do it for you because you are a good man that leaveth inheritance to his children's children, sir you fulfilled that scripture and we are going to treat you as such, thank you sir,may your days be long because we need father's like you to stay alive and teach us and younger generations more, God bless you sir

@@carolmcc1320 with all due respect, what is a “common man burial”? I decent burial - a place for burial and remembrance of the good deeds of the person- is what a person needs. Not needless pall bearers dancing with caskets and needless spending on food and other stuff. Why not spend the money to celebrate the person when alive?
