Isn't it strange how the Nija snacks/ food is being served by Asians... They've cashed in on our hair products, now it's food. Why don't we run our own business. I'm asking this innocently
@sandykashlin7152
8 жыл бұрын
I was about to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. Asians don't miss a trick when it comes to making that paper. The question is, will black folks honestly continue over a period of time to support black owned businesses OR continue to line the pockets of these Asians who own several businesses??

+Glover dragon could part of the problem be that some Nigerian sellers guilty of over pricing and Nigerian customers known for taking advantage, aggressive haggling or wanting to buy on credit. I witnessed all this helping my uncle run his food store. I think was one of the main reason it was unsuccessful.

Peckham is NOT, NOT, NOT!!!! Little Lagos. 3:10 & 0:35 - She is listing of all those Nigerian foods but look at who is selling it!! Asian store owners with only black customers! 1:14 - "There's everything you want here", not provided by other Nigerians. 4:11 - All that hair they will buy will not be from black people. 4:29 - The store on the right is called 'Khan's', what Nigerian is called Khan? All black people own are hairdressers, barbers and a few restaurants, none of the essential things we need. Blacks can't go to Chinatown and selling them noodles, can't go to Tooting and sell Indians curry, but ANYONE can come to Peckham, Brixton, Tottenham and sell us Chicken, Yam and Fufu. The worse thing is, we are not even embarrassed by this! This video is attempting to show this as a success but it's really showing our failures as blacks in London. This leads to bigger problems, because black men do not focus on putting themselves in positions where they can provide economic opportunities for their children, these areas (Peckham, Brixton, Tottenham) are also notorious for crime by young black men!

I have noticed that most mini grocery shops that sell food stuffs catering to cuisine from parts of Nigeria, Ghana & The Caribbean are for the most part owned by people of South East Asian descent and not as one would expect by people of Anglophone West African & Caribbean descent. These days even larger retailers eg Tesco, found in particular neighbourhoods are cashing in stocking some of these food products at your expense. The irony is that these same South East Asian owned mini grocery stores. Have the particular food products supplied by suppliers from the mentioned African & Caribbean nations It's not only in London but other major urban centers of the U.K. within neighbourhoods that tend to be popular with Anglophone West Africans & even Anglophone Caribbeans. You got to start taking business ownership of what caters to your particular unique interests. An example amongst the U.K Chinese, Jewish, Polish, Indian, Pakistani communities. Are the one's who own and run businesses that specifically cater to some of their unique cuisine needs. And members from these communities patronise those businesses, no matter how small the business may be.

Some excellent comments here. WAIT FOR THE PUNCHLINE BELOW !!! :) I was born and raised in a 95% White/British area 2 miles from Peckham and in 1965 when a Black Guy was seen walking along my High Street he was, literally, pointed out and commented on but as African Culture came in then, by definition, the local indigenous White Culture became diluted and, virtually, disappeared altogether. NOW in 2018 Gentrification is taking over many parts of Peckham and 100 other Inner London Areas and the Whites are,thus, returning and NOW it is African people who are complaining that THEIR Culture is being diluted etc. If you live long enough things go in a cycle..lol

1. This video re-emphasizes (howbeit unintentionally) our collective failure as Black People: sheer inability to even understand what TRUE COMMUNITY and FRATERNITY means. 2. We are too easily pleased, and have no long term GENERATIONAL VISION. 3. This is also why Western and Arab colonialism battered us the way it did. A people who love to see others succeed more than themselves. As long as it's not their own Black Brothers and Sisters, no problem. 4. Meanwhile our families are broken, our communities mere colour-spice imagination, our children and youths are lost. No wonder same Peckham area is notorious for violence. Unfortunately the younger generation like the three Sistas in the video can't even see it with their two eyes opened. We need RE-EDUCATION. Badly taught we have been.

Problem with these diverse areas of London is there's no direct tube station to them, and even when there is it's in zone 3 or over meaning tourists just aren't going to pay extra to enter a tube zone above their day ticket limit to risk being disappointed. I have visited Brixton because it's right on a station and only just in the border zone 2, but if I wanted to explore further it's going to damage my funds and I have no guarantee I will enjoy it. It's just not made tourist friendly. Make it easier and more will turn up simple as that. I visited a mosque in Wembley that was easy enough but it has accessible transport links and the people were very affable so no issues. I can experience Nigerian, African and Caribbean culture this bank holiday at Nottinghill that is easier for me. Selling Peckham will be difficult no matter who lives there black white asian brown.......

Leave aside the people group selling the food for the min, as long as they have good customer service , plus if they sell the food now and help it get popular, they will help promote the food to all people groups so eventually Nigerians food will get popular enough for her people to be in the position to sell their food too, however if you get bad customer service regardless where you shop don't go back there, shop owners need to learn to respect their customers support which is what they do when they come to buy your goods, nice day, siJb

I love Peckham, along with Brixton, Camberwell and Dalston. It's almost like visiting Africa or the Caribbean with only a travelcard (apart from the weather). Walking along Queens Rd, you can be the only white person for 200yds - feels a little weird but OK. Some of the comments on here are downright disgusting. It's a small part of South London for goodness sake.

I just can't stand the fact that so many people other than Nigerians are actually selling and cooking the food, MAMA back home didn't used to have someone asian next to her when cooking, she was a pro cook. she even spoke yoruba language a different type that i didn't even know, all i'm saying is that it won't have that same feel to buying and eating. also the conversation between mallam and customer the banter is just different, how can we speak broken language to someone who can't even cook the food properly.

lol I noticed that to when I went to Peckham all the shops were owned by asians.But I guess if you are so bothered you should start a shop yourself.

this is sickening to watch! my 1st thought was who is the owner of the grocery store? thought it was nice to Nigerians capitalizing off the migration only to be disappointed with seeing the crumb snatching culture vultures. smh

I dey steadily patronize Peckham, Funny thing is that I used to call the place ''little Lagos'' long before now. Biko you failed to mention CHEAP HAIRCUTS for guys. For as little as 7 pounds you can that done with the normal wizkid-David banter or Chelsea-Man U argument in the background....just like in Nigeria.lol

looks like cyprus,thousands of africans come every year to get political asylum.minimum wage is 840 euros but you can get asylo and 1200 euros every month,you could also have 400euros for renting and more money when you have a baby which is usually the case.Africans in cyprus say to their friends in africa,it is paradise. ;) why stay or go to london?

Enjoy the meals wherever but don't go to shops where the shop keepers have no customer service and are rude e.g drop cash in your hands or throw the change at you or give you dirty looks,regardless of their race if you do you are supporting abusive behaviour, just a thought, siJb
