They are the ones who created this style back in late 1980s. Bands like Riggor Mortis, Soilent Green, Acid Bath, Crow bar, eyehategod, early Down evolved it. If you're curious of riggor mortis, it's the first band Mike Scaccia and Al Jorgensen formed before Ministry.

It'd be fair to say Flipper and the sludgier Black Flag songs influenced the Melvins, too. The "My War" record was huge in Seattle-area punk for sure at that time.

Melvins are such a great mix of grim metal and being total clowns. Way heavier than a lot of "heavy" bands but they don't take themselves nearly as seriously.

Dude , this " Bad Melvins" period is the best Melvins´s era . Fan since the days I used to play catch with Melvin´s granpa and live @Hellfest 2011 is " still" one of the greatest performances of all time (by any band out there - any style ) .

Only other band I've seen live that rips with 2 drummers was Pigface about 20 or 25 years ago. Killer shit, like floated a keg and ate a 4 day old taco bell taco salad type killer shit. Screw the teeth, it could make your bowels growl on the 100.

If you dig the big two drummer sound, check out Thee Oh Sees. They're way more punk and psychedelic focused, but they remind me a lot of the Melvins too with the raw riffs and big sound.
