@@ongta1265 yeah, I went crabbing at night and used a net and it worked well. The rake is interesting though. I noticed some of the time the crabs grab onto the rake and then caught that way. Not sure what type of crabs those are but at least from what I have seen with blue crab they won’t do that. The ones I’ve dealt with let go of bait as soon as they see you and swim away. Good idea with the light on the pole.

@@phw340 Those are the tasty Dungeness bro, maybe second after king crab, well sought after here in north America. Yes, these Dungeness are feisty, would pinch anything. So, I would remove the netting and replace with some strong wire, like a basket 3"x3" holes, scoop them up or let them grab on the wire. Heck, instead of a garden rake, use a smaller 4-prong clam rake, lighter cuz the big rake will wear you out. Cheers!

I had a really great time despite going down. I always keep changes of clothes in the car so no big deal. it's not dangerous at all as long as you have a waist belt but it is uncomfortable to be wet and heavy but i was not cold at all. The quicksand effect is something i have to learn to deal with but i'm really looking forward to going back. it's a VERY COOL experience. Everyone needs to try this once. It's unbelievable to see that many crabs just walking along non-chalantly.

@jaikim4499
4 жыл бұрын
@@arydativ5491 this is near Newport, Oregon in a bay but you can try it anywhere there is shallow beach and crabs. There has to be places in Washington to do it as well with the Sound. Do a Google maps search for bays/inlets and using satellite mode, look for shallow wading areas. you need to go a minus tide so you have access to flats you wouldn't at high tide. Netarts or Tillamook in Oregon are closer and i believe you could do it there. But if you know where to catch crabs in Washington in shallow areas, you could do the same thing there. Go first at day time to get to know the area and then go back at night when crabs are more active.

Ok PK, you kind of lost me when you said flowing with the current? Are you in a back bay or what/where?? Will this work on the calif. coast?? It looks like way too much fun and I would like to try it one evening. I'll read the regs to see? Question, did you give up using the Crack & Crab?? I used a grinder on one of my crabbing buckets and beveled the edge thin and just put a trash bag in it and use it like the Crack & Crab. I would love to see that beach/area in the daylight so I have an idea as to what to look for??

PK you have me psyched about coming out to Oregon from RI some year during the fall to wander around in the dark to catch crabs. Question: how are you storing the crabs you don't eat immediately? How long do they keep in the refrigerator? Can you freeze them? Or do you have to cook and pull the meat out then refrigerate or freeze it?
@oregonlife

I freeze them. To me, they don't taste any good after a week or 2. But my family eats them months after it's frozen. You can cook whole and freeze them, or cook and pull all the meat, or break them down before cooking. I'm not really into freezing meat as I prefer them fresh.

One to one and a half hours before low tide, Siletz Bay, Tillamook Bay (park at Happy Camp or Terimore motel), and Giraldbaldi crabbing dock, parking available. Bring good headlamps and flashlights, extra batteries, and a small net, $12 online is perfect, a clam rake is way better. Don't bring rake like him, shoulder length gloves from Harbor Freight is much easier. Good Luck Xiong!
