For Poet and the Pendulum (Live at Wembley) you'll probably need two boxes of Kleenex. I don't always advise prior research of a song but I definitely think it's beneficial for that one... and turn the captions on 👍🤘 that song is a masterpiece! Prepare to be left in awe

And Mme. JyngerSlapz, this referenced song is written backwards, there's a whispered "The End" when it starts and "The Beginning" when it finishes. I agree, the captions and some research is very useful although not essential probably.

All is said about the song, but there is one element that enhances the song. And that is the screen behind band. It shows little boy reaching for swans and in Finnish mythology swans carries dead souls to Tuonela (Death's domain)

Dead Boys Poem is incredibly special to me. I connected so deeply and it helped me so much in my healing. Nightwish taught me how to feel again after feeling nothing for what seemed an eternity. I seen the tears in your eyes and it´s beautiful to see you feel it too. Earlier this year I met Tuomas Holopainen in Kitee, Finland and spent some precious moments with him. I shook his hand and told him what Nightwish meant to me. What a wonderful, humble human being he is :D

I think your 'handle' says it all. The words you use as your 'name', are some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever experienced. The song, SHOEMAKER, wrecks me. Every. Single. Time. The beauty of the song, video and sentiment of NASA honoring Eugene in that way are just overwhelming.

As soon as Floor started singing my eyes went all misty. One thing someone pointed out on another reaction to this song that I thought was pretty poignant…. Emppu’s guitar solo…the expression on his face when he finishes…not his usual smiling, happy visage. Maybe that demonstrates the power of this song….it even got to him. For Tuomas himself this song means a lot. He has said that this is the “mother of all Nightwish songs, about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. He said: ” This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologize everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul.” Here are the words read by the boy: I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you I'm sorry If you read this line Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse Songmaker's cry, the one without tears For I've given this its strength And it has become my only strength Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew The sweet piano writing down my life Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone Show me love, hold the lorn So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me I'm sorry Time will tell, this bitter farewell I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you And you I wish I didn't feel for you anymore So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me Time will tell Nuff Said!!!! It shows how Tuomas defined Nightwish, Nightwish also defined Tuomas. The success of Nightwish ended Tuomas' childhood. The Boy-Tuomas is no more (hence the "dead boy") what put him in a bit of identity-seaching.

Nobody anticipates finding a band who can touch their soul with each song when they first start listening to Nightwish, but it's something we learn in time. As a composer, Tuomas has the brilliant ability to put words to music that does just that, but in Floor he has found the perfect conduit to convey those emotions. She's an empathic singer who leaves her heart on the stage, and the each member of the band has a similar capability. This is one of the very few songs where Emppu does not smile as he plays. He recognizes the serious nature of the song, and it almost breaks my heart to not see the pleasure he exudes with his virtuosity. Thanks again for sharing your emotions with us. I warned you about the tissues. I wasn't being cute. Love you, and awaiting your next step on the journey.

Great reaction Jynger. This is one of their older songs, and one of Tuomas’s most personal. It was inspired by the question, If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you have to say today? Tuomas answers in the persona of his boyhood, innocent, yet perhaps misunderstood. It’s a beautiful song that Floor put her own mark on, singing it rather differently than the original. Now, do you want a different emotion? Check out Yours is an Empty Hope, an angry song from Tuomas, aimed at internet trolls and haters. Floor will surprise you too. I suggest the Wembley version. Listen carefully. After that, you might be ready for one of the other two magnum opuses, though I’d recommend Greatest Show on Earth before Poet and the Pendulum. Just my opinion. I’m enjoying watching your Nightwish journey.

I think that this song and poem relates to everyone in some way or another! Between "Nemo" and "Dead Boy's Poem" ...Tuomas must have tapped into the lives of those of us who have gone through some very dark times in our lives. I was depressed and became an alcoholic in my late 20's to early 40's, until one day I decided that I didn't want this life anymore. I am now 65 years young, and I am 23 years, 1 month and 14 days sober! Also depression free..despite my injured lower back, which has made it nearly impossible for me to walk, I am happy inside! I take it one moment at a time! Thank you for taking your time out of your day to explore the music of Nightwish! I appreciate it more than you know!

Jynger...I've watched a LOT of your content. ...and then view your Nightwish (and Floor Jansen) reactions... To my untrained eye, NW performances seem to unlock the pain you seem to be guarding. This particular song and performance are DRIPPING with emotions. Pain, loss and sorrow are embodied by this song and the line spoken by the 'child' in the song "And you. I wish I didn't feel for you anymore." seemed to really trigger a response in you. Tuomas writes from the heart and Floor gives it WINGS and breath to touch yours. And mine. And anyone with ears. It's an extremely rare gift. I'm 62 this year and heard and seen A LOT of bands, singers and artists. And I've been moved a few times. The tapestry of music and the journey of emotions this band creates, 'moves' me almost every time... the experience is supernatural to me. The tears flow freely. And sometimes abundantly. It's a real phenomenon. She also instills empathy in me. When you react with tears, I feel an empathetic sadness and loss too. Both from Floor's performance and your response. Trying not to sound weird... maybe too late. I guess I'm trying, awkwardly, to say... I felt that too😢❤

Congrats on 5k. Very personal song for Tuomas. Whenever you see the words 'boy' or 'poet' ,Tuomas is usually talking about himself. Troy is playing an Irish bouzouki, a relative of the Mandola. Marko's double neck, 'The Beast', is a custom Warwick bass and Framus guitar combo (both brand names are owned by the same company). The guitar neck has more of an acoustic sound, to hear that and Marko on lead vocal, try the Islander (Tampere 2015)

Hi there. Love the reaction. Very emotional, to an emotional song. Tuomas and the band just do this to their audience. When I listened to the Wishmaster album for the first time, this song hit me quite off guard as the majority of songs of that album fall into power metal. The build-up of Dead Boy's Poem is amazing. Also, this very live version is outstanding with the band giving everything and Floor doing her thing. However, I wish you had reacted to a version (original or live) with Tarja Turunen as singer. Floor Jansen is a force of nature, but some Nightwish songs have a very unique atmosphere with Tarja's more operatic style. Dead Boy's Poem is one of these songs, along with Nemo, The Kinslayer, Ever Dream (the Wacken 2013 version is very good, but the 2005 End Of An Era version is a fantastic and very emotional), Walking In The Air (a cover, I'm not sure if there is a version with Floor as singer), and of course Phantom Of The Opera (also a cover). I'd really like to see you react to some Nightwish songs with Tarja as a singer - if only to see how Nightwish sounds to you with a female lead singer with a different style than Floor Jansen. Keep 'em coming.

Even though this is a relatively recent recording, it's a fairly old song. Particularly in the older material, if you hear "dead boy", "the poet" or "oceansoul" it's Tuomas referring to aspects of himself. A good old one is "Deep, silent, complete" from the Wishes to Eternity live set... And later, the song called "Oceansoul" for some deep feels.

So so sad. But but that last 1/3 of the song is like, "yeah, but so what?" Love it.

I saw the thumbnail and instantly clicked, I get goosebumps as soon as it starts and tears when Floor sings, and that happens every time I hear it!. You did well to hold it for so long but it got you in the end. I'm enjoying your Nightwish journey, it brings back the memories of my own journey. thank you and take care

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this. Floor with her boots on stage is 6'5" tall.

You did it again..... I teared watching you tear up 😥. If this band can make a manly man such as I, NW has got their audience in the palm of their hands. You won't be the first or most certainly not the last to get those emotions shown once again. Try listening to the songs over and over. The emotion swing is so strong because theres always something you didnt catch hearing the first 3 times. Its nuts but I thoroughly enjoy listening to each of their songs after the 120th time like it was the 1st time 👍😁. And yes, in the right mood I tear up. The Poet and the Pendulum you'll be a mess but we'll get you thru a few more songs first

a word about their song poet and the pendulum. look up the backstory on it before listening to it. if you don't. the song won't make sense. this song has a deep meaning too.

Great reaction. You're not the first and certainly not the last to be so moved by this song. There will be several suggestions for The Poet and the Pendulum at Wembley 2015 as it the most emotional of all the Nightwish songs as Tuomas puts his depression and suicide into the song as a catharsis after the sacking of Tarja and the unpleasantness it caused. Definitely needs the tissues.

Thanks again for the great video! It's been nice to follow your Nightwish journey! As many have already said, this song tells Tuomas' own thoughts, what he wants us fans to remember about him if he dies unexpectedly. "Remember not the hand that wrote it Remember only the verse" So even if Tuomas dies, don't get attached to him, but let his music live on. This song clearly shows how Nightwish tells a story. Each member of the band is enlivened by the storytelling, you won't see them smile. Not even Emppu... They tell a sad story in a masterful way that takes us all along. An interesting detail on the led board on the back. There you can see a big flying bird. It comes from old Finnish mythology from the time before Christianity. When a person dies, a big bird comes to take his soul to another world.
