If you have ever struggled with the Pivot Take Down (Shihonage), this video may help you, as it addresses and aims to fix nage's positioning at the point where many nages feel the most unstable during the technique.
Notes: This is NOT a video on Pivot Take Down Classical Technique, although it does begin with the same side grip. We intentionally explore a more "Aiki" oriented wrist escape in the first movement.
Additionally, I look at the Pivot Take Down as its own independent technique resulting in a throw, and not irrevocably tied to the Hold Down pin. In my mind, the Hold Down finish to the Pivot Take Down Throw is a sequence of two techniques that could be applied from a variety of scenarios including, but not limited to, the Front Wrist Throw to Hold Down Pin; the Pivot Over the Back Throw to Hold Down Pin; and the Pivot Take Down to Hold Down Pin. They do not have to be coupled together.
Food for thought: If you were ever going to rename this technique, I submit that substituting "Hamni Turn" for "Pivot" would be ideal - so "Hamni Turn Take Down."
"Hamni Turn" in Japanese can be translated as "Tenkai."
