Bravo Nikki. This interview made me a super fan now. 22 years sober here. I can relate. Mr. Bensinger, thank you for asking the questions and letting the person answer the questions without the interruption. My biggest compliments. @@jupiter_9999 yes, but didn’t think much of it. Read another one called the joy of being sober by Catherine Grey. I tapered down over a few weeks until I could go without. Best decision ever.

@@rtrwing68 it's called "Quit Drinking without Willpower: Be a Happy Nondrinker" by Allen Carr. It's pretty repetitive, but it's also a pretty quick read. And like I said, it just completely clicked for me, and I haven't had a drink since I read that in November 2019

I love you Nikki! Thank you for your bravery and courage sharing all of this. I'm 9 months sober from alcohol. I was a high-functioning alcoholic so i didn't throw my life away per say but oh my god did it slow things down and caused many other issues. Man, I feel so much better. I'm so thankful you exist!

Good for you Nikki and fellow St. Louisian…..I myself gave up boos and it is amazing…..you never realize how much time, money and control it has on you even if your an alcoholic or not…..it’s a dangerous addictive drug but it is so tax incentive and a way of life in this country no one stops to think how dangerous it can be

Good for you Nikki and I am also a fellow St. Louisian. I was lucky enough to actually lose interest in alcohol, just woke up one day and couldn't stand the smell or taste anymore. Problem was I had been self medicating to offset another issue in my life which was almost impossible to handle on my own and I would not be able to properly describe the problem I was having to a professional (where it made sense to them) for another 10 years or so. You made a great and difficult decision and I am so proud of you! What a great interview on both sides of the mic. You are so beautiful, entertaining and funny! Keep it coming!!!

Wonderful honesty. Not always a popular topic! 17 years sober luckily. Some of us have a genetic disposition to alcoholism, etc. I was fortunate to have a sister with the same problem take me to a place of support and understanding dealing with alcoholism.

Your mom said I hate you too also? And yes alcohol only led me to blackout pass out scenarios so I said I can just start doing tons of cocaine and keep drinking…addiction sets in so I added more with heroin, I really wanted to fuck myself up. You are right though, seeing that it is your fault and finding fault and to deal with it, also helps you learn if you may have some indelible condition you tried to self medicate.

I totally identify with some of the experiences she’s had. I gave up drinking too and while it was hard at first, once I did it, it changed my life in such a positive way. If you are struggling with this, you CAN pull out of it once you’re ready. 💪👊

Good for her for being honest about herself ! I was always a social drinker, but slowed down in my early 30's, stopped before the pregnancy in my mid 30's, after her death, I went out socially a few times a year after. Now, it has been over 10 years since I had a drink socially, and really do not miss it. Nikki, with the right counselor/self work, you can most likely get rid of all of your addictions/disorders, and have a functional/healthy/stable life ! ! Go Nikki go ! - Jen Gable (Justeson) *Remove and replace, meaning remove the dysfunctional behavior/addiction, replace with functional activity ! You were born with a healthy body, take excellent care of it, you ARE worth it !! ❤

General question from someone that drinks socially, I've seen and known a few ppl like Nikki that have problems and give up drinking altogether, why not try to manage your drinking, I only say that because I don't drink to blackout like she said and I find it great but if I do drink too much then there's a problem, like is it not possible for ppl like her to drink in moderation?

you are looking at this wrong way, you think its fun to be non sober in any way,is there really any need to be non sober?do kids need to be non sober,even slightly..no. its learnt behaviour,if its no biggie to have a couple drinks,and therefore get slightly non sober,why do it,take the edge off? I stopped drinking years ago,not because I had any problem,like you say,I just asked myself again and again,is there any reason to do this?unless I want to feel non sober,I face things now,always,life is better,I am better. I dont know if it makes sense,but there it is
