Might have to do with how schools are structured and the culture being too lax for children compared to other countries. Schools are at fault for pushing kids through grades even if they aren't passing so the problem falls onto the schools for giving us these high schoolers graduating who can't do basic mathmatics or read. Trust me going to high school in baltimore city I could find three or four people in a class of 20 who couldn't read from the book outloud and everyone else in the class just didn't know half the words in the great gatsby.

I agree he's not pressing the controversial guests, but try to remember that he's an entertainer (and an awesome one!) but he's not a politics/news nerd like Jon or Trevor, or even Roy. (I use the word "nerd" with honor.) Also, he doesn't choose the guests-- they were already booked... he just got stuck with them. The writers write the questions. So while I wish he pushed back more, it's the guy's 3rd day at a brand-new, temporary job. Give him a little grace. ❤️

What is 8th grade, like 12? Moldova doesn't have that bad schooling. I don't believe any western country has such bad schools. We had to speak 1 language well a second pretty poorly, as well as 4 other major subjects to go to secondary (age 13), or else stay in the special class until we could.

I don't know if it's quite so high, but the % of post-pandemic 8th graders who cannot read is so shockingly high that the most logical reaction is utter disbelief. Even more of a shock is the fact that Mississippi committed to fixing their abysmal track record in teaching kids to read a couple years ago, and has succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectations-AND they did without a substantial increase in spending. They've been so successful, in fact, that they have made their strategic program freely available to any/all states, counties, etc. who might want to learn from or implement it. Most recently New York moved to begin implementing MS 's literacy program throughout the state.

I have been watching the Daily Show for 20+ years and always voted for Democrats. But I liked this interview with Niki Haley. I think it is important to listen to the other side, and to break out of one's "echo-chamber". I didn't agree with everything she said, but 70-80% of her answers sounded reasonable to me. If she can make it through the Trump GOP "big filter" she may well be our next President.

It's frustrating to have someone interview candidates that doesn't have the political knowledge and journalistic experience to ask hard-hitting questions and not let them pivot in their answers. What did anyone learn about her and her policies from this piece?

But the thing is Stewart and Noah didn’t have “journalistic experience” either. The difference is their brand of comedy pointed out, in different ways, the absolute absurdity of our political structure. I personally don’t know why CC decided to platform this guy.

He doesn’t write the questions, Daily Show is production with writers. He’s just the mouthpiece. The only difference between him and Stewart or Noah is they’re actual comedians that know how to riff off comedic barbs of their own.

Saying that sexism doesn't affect her because she does her homework implies that other women are not on the top of their game. But this is exactly how we keep the system the way it is, fighting for that one spot reserved for women and not support each other and fight for equality

I used to like the daily show because they used to ask some tough questions. I am greatly disappointed by this interview which felt more like a podium to make Nikki shine and let her fear- mongering go unchecked. There were no questions to what she thought of election result deniers and fake electors in her party.

I'd rather be respected and/or loved than feared, personally...If you have a parent you're scared of, you get better at not getting caught.
