Nikko came through my home town, Taos New Mexico, in 2012 when he was sponsored by Legacy Discs.. he was traveling around spreading the word about disc golf to the youth and he went to my son's school and was handing out signed discs to the kids and showing them some starter tips.. he's the reason my son and I have been playing disc golf ever since. I was standing with the Blue Ribbon Pines group who knew Locastro well. No one else was around. Locastro was following his girlfriend and he saw the guys from BRP and came over to reconnect. As they chatted it up one of the girls asked him to sign her baseball cap for her kid and he did so happily. I then asked him to sign my disc and he ignored me. Another girl in the group asked him to sign her disc and he did so happily. I asked him again to sign mine and he ignored me. He finished signing the girls disc and I knew I had only one more chance because he was wanting to follow his girlfriend. So I asked one more time and he looked at me and said, "no." Then said good bye to everyone and left. Hes a tool bag in my opinion. Maybe he has his good days. Most toolbags do but he gave me no reason to support him. Most of us had to learn to keep that shit held back as children. It's like he missed a stage of emotional development. It's very gross to me. So I don't watch him, I don't buy his discs, and I don't buy discs from the company he represents. I don't know, I just hate the outburst-y nature of Nikko. I hate it in anyone, not just athletes. I was beat, berated, and boxed in until I had my emotions in check (and so were most people--that's a big part of growing up.) Why should he get special allowances? I'm sure he's a good dude. I would probably hang with the guy off the course. I just have no desire to support him or the image/persona he represents. Bottom line: most people with fiery passion suffered repercussions for emotional outbursts and learned to control them. Nikko clearly has not and I don't care to support that. Have you ever had a boss blow up on you? It's not fun. People usually just dislike that boss. No one excuses it as passion. I don't have time for people who allow their emotions to run rampant in their actions. Again, I absolutely don't hate him. I'm simply not a fan and I think I've reasonably explained why.

Nikko is one of my top 10 maybe 5 players ever.. I admire his passion for the sport and I don’t need every player to be super zen Buddhist monk namaste on the field. What do I care he wants to air kick at the basket or slap the ground or say dammit? And he’s a great player. If he were to ever change then good for him but I like watching him play on coverage and in person just how he is now. It’s exciting.

I def love him .I'm an old lady that just started playing ( 2 months but obsessed) and OMG I'm so channeling this guy. I've had to work really hard at toning down my emotions when playing it's not easy. I've angrily slammed discs into the chains when I missed the prior putt, and I get super excited when I make a long putt or a good drive ( imagine Rocky throwing up his hands and running the length of the putt. I also say things like ' 254 feet' over and over for the next few days to anyone I can). It makes me feel a lot better to see I'm not the only one that gets so emotional. I'm very proud of the fact that despite my great age (about to be 60) and my only playing 2 months I've had a few drives over 250 feet and occasionally land some lengthy putts. I also now have this thing where I try to throw in my sleep and my arm jerks and wakes me up. Anyone else have that?

Statement Regarding Nikko Locastro's Disqualification at the 2022 European Open By: PDGA Staff Friday, July 22, 2022 - 13:42 At all PDGA-sanctioned events, all participants are required to adhere to the Official Rules of Disc Golf and the Competition Manual for Disc Golf Events. These rules and competition standards govern all aspects of play and conduct at a PDGA event, including player behavior. During round two of the European Open, following a time violation call, Nikko Locastro engaged in conduct toward a Tournament Official that the Tournament Director has evaluated according to these standards. Per Competition Manual 1.12.H, video evidence may be used to evaluate and investigate player misconduct. The video of the incident captured by the Disc Golf Network, in part, served as evidence here. Competition Manual 3.03 reads, in part: “All players must adhere to a professional standard of sporting ethics, courtesy, and integrity while participating in a PDGA-sanctioned event and when commenting to the media. Conduct that violates this standard is subject to courtesy violations called by players (see 812, Courtesy), penalties issued by the Tournament Director, and any further disciplinary action deemed appropriate by the PDGA. If a player violates the above standard, the Tournament Director may opt, in their sole discretion, to issue a tournament warning for a first offense (except as specified in 3.03.C). Otherwise, the Tournament Director will immediately disqualify the player. Actions that violate this standard include, but are not limited to . . . [o]vert rudeness or threatening behavior to anyone present.” CM 3.03.A and B. Additionally, when approached by Jeff Jacquart, PDGA Director of Competition, for further information on the incident, Mr. Locastro refused to cooperate or even discuss the matter. Competition Manual 3.03.B.8 states that “[o]bstruction of, or failure or refusal to cooperate with, any investigation by an official into the player’s conduct or the conduct of another player” also constitutes player misconduct. For all these reasons, Petri Anttiroiko, Tournament Director for the 2022 European Open has concluded that Mr. Locastro’s actions were overtly rude and threatening toward the PDGA marshal observing his card. Therefore, Nikko Locastro has been disqualified from the European Open. The PDGA Director of Competition concurs with the TD’s ruling. According to PDGA policy, Mr. Locastro will also be referred to the PDGA Disciplinary Committee for further potential disciplinary action.

Sadly its more damage then just physical. It hurts the integrity of the sport as well. If actions arent taken to stop these behaviors (especially with a sport still trying to grow like disk golf, more money for prise, sponsors, you name it) it'll never be taken seriously, and you'll lose the popular opinion of the people your trying to make this sport appeal to. Actions like nikko's stunt the overall growth of the sport. And thats why i FULLY back the suspension he got because of it. I dont hate the guy, and i hope the time off will teach him to discipline his temper. And that when he comes back he'll be better for it. I cant wait to see him on tour again, a better person.

He is a great example of how you can walk the attitude edge and still be allowed to play. Much further and I believe he would start getting penalty strokes. We have a rule in our league. After the second penalty stroke in a round you can’t come back next week and you need a time out to refocus your priorities and consider others while on the course. You have a duty when you sign up in leagues to not disrupt the group. It’s an excuse to say some people can’t control themselves. They can. If they try and there is penalties if you don’t. If you want something bad enough you will control yourself.

Secondly I think that hes language in general, and the amount of times hes swearing on the course is also something that could be questioned, espacially in a fast growing sport where pros always are looked up to

"He's just passionate" Isn't a valid argument. Do you really think he is the only pro that has passion for the game? Give me a break. They are all passionate. The difference is that they are also well adjusted and don't act inappropriately during professional sporting events. Throwing tempter tantrums and having general anti-social behavior isn't passion, is toxic and negatively affects the other players and spectators. It is ok to have emotional responses during a competitive event, but It's not ok to have aggressive outburst that make other people uncomfortable because of it. If you think it is, then we simply disagree.

I watched Nikko give lessons to a random kid (about 11 or 12 years old) before a practice round for the StL Open. Apparently the kid caught wind that Nikko was going to be in town but didn’t have much experience playing. Nikko let the kid use his personal discs and they played several holes together, one on one. When the kid came back to the first tee pad where our group was still hanging out, the youngster laced one right down the fairway. He probably learned in a few holes what took years for a lot of us to learn. That was a class act move for sure by Nikko. I’ve had several interactions with him, and none of them have been negative. He has also worked with numerous elementary schools and has gone overseas to various regions to promote the sport to people that may otherwise not get a chance to participate.
