Thanks buddy. I was about to purchase the Monarch, but everyone warned me about the limited field of view. Your video showed me that the limited fov of the Monarch was no big deal. Besides, the Monarch has water proofing and anti fogging and a generous eye relief, which is important to me since I wear glasses. I’m getting the Monarch - thanks again buddy.

we were going to the space needle in seattle so i purchase this right before we left and i was super happy that i did. was able to enjoy looking around downtown seattle, port of seattle and old seattle from the space needle. i was also able to use this to view along as we rode the pacific coast starlight. i purchased this from best buy for $69 during their black friday promo. usually sells for $89. now, i am using this for bird watching from our backyard and i am stoked with the clarity of the images. i will purchase another one and give it my uncle in the philippines for regular viewing. i already gave him a big binos (celestron skymaster pro 20x80, for star gazing)

I prefer Aculan as I've been using it for some time they are great. They have multicoated lens, BAK4 porro prism (slightly better than 7) they aren't waterproof or fogproof but I can afford them and they are just good... Monarch is great too but for me I prefer Aculan, specifically Aculan 10-22x50.

Very informative film/video, whatever, good explanations re the numbers on the box etc, without going to excess, just simple practical terms. Combining that knowledge with practical in the field ( quite literally ) demonstrations gives even a complete novice a basic grasp of the technical aspects of binoculars. Made a refreshing change to view an instructional piece without the presenter going on an ego trip, thank you.

another advantage difficult to explane looking at a monitor of the aculon architecture compared to the Monarch s that the two front lenses are set more apart, meaning you have a better "binocular perception" and a better sense of "deep" looking at an images.

Hi, I think it's a little more details vs slightly lighter and smaller. For birds the 8x40/42 is better. For stargazing it's a ti I think. Best allrounder: 8x40/42. ( maybe the 8x has also less distortion at the adge vs the 7x35??) if only for the stars ? I would go for the 7x35.

It also got me to thinking about upgrading my 20 odd year old Nikon Sporting 2 8x40. 7.5 degree binocs to maybe one of their Monarch line of binocs. No intention of ditching the old ones, just to have a newer, 10 or 12 power set of Monarchs for that closer view. Cheers.

harrothepilot thank you for the compliment! I hope you and your friend enjoy your new purchases. My family and I went on a road trip this last summer and I brought both the aculon and monarch, the monarch I kept by my side but the aculon was passed around by everyone and there were no gripes. There was even a tour we went on that they had loaner binoculars, the aculon was better than the loaner binoculars by far that larger objective lens lets in a lot more light than what they had for loaners and the images were much sharper.

I have a 2004 R1150RTP, and a 1998 R1200C, BMW stands for Best Motorcycle in the World 🤣. Keep safe as well. Have you thought about trying to do a KZitem type video on your repairs of the bike? KZitem can be kind of fun, even without too many viewers. I had a 1975 goldwing and I took a walk around video of it, a production company from discovery channel reached out to me and asked me if they could use a portion of the walk around video in biketacular as some b-roll when talking about the goldwing. It actually made it on the air, surprised me.

@@PaulusdeKenezy Absolutely, I try to get back to everyone! Do you mean the smaller Monarch binoculars? They are an attractive package. They are nice and lightweight. I have the same problem with leaving the bulk at home, I recently got a Sony RX100 point and shoot camera that has the focal length equivalent of 24-200 so my DSLR kit stays at home collecting dust the little Sony point and shoot is good enough for me, 20MP stills and 4K video if I want it, then I can put it in my pocket afterwards. The thing takes up less space than the smallest lens I have for my DSLR. The best gear is the gear you have with you!

@alexsystems2001

Shubham Gupta Thank you for the comment, I guess it depends on what you consider practical, astronomy aside, for general use sightseeing, going to sporting events etc i think the 8x42 is the best generic binoculars they are even usually smaller and lighter too. 10x I’ve found are a little more shakey, the close focal distance is still quite far so you can’t focus on very near things, and depending on what you want the 10x50’s are more expensive. If I was like out at sea where I want to see approaching boats or land etc etc, I would probably prefer the 10x. As for astronomy, I don’t like really looking up much through binoculars either way, a telescope is way more exciting or a camera, so I don’t think personally I like any binoculars for astronomy purposes. I have the monarch 10x42 as well now and I don’t find myself using it as much as the 8x42. The 8x42 in both the aculon and monarch I think is just a better clearer sharper image. The 10 gets me closer but I don’t find myself using it as often. That’s just my 3 cents worth. I hope it helps.

888typer888 thank you for the comment, I’ve had both of them fog up on the exterior of the lenses in the eye cup, BUT I could see the 211’s fogging you internally in the right conditions since they aren’t sealed. If I was going to be in the rain or such I would probably consider the sealed monarch, but for most needs my 211’s are my go-to binoculars. Yes at least at the time I purchased them Nikon offered lifetime warranties.
@RoigRivera

I used spectacles does this aculons has enough eye relief?
@alexsystems2001
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question, that’s a tough one, I don’t need glasses to live but I do for certain tasks and these binoculars both have retractable eye cups. If you are asking do they retract enough to get the binocular lens closer to your glasses? The best I can say is I think so, I have used them a couple times with my glasses on BUT like when using my DSLR camera I focus the viewfinder to my eye without my glasses that way two things, one I’m not scuffing or dirtying my glasses with a piece of rubber smearing dust around, also the image looks way better when it is dark around my eye and all the ambient light is shielded. I feel for my eye condition I can focus the eyepieces enough for me to see well through them without my glasses if that makes sense. My Mom as well seems to get them focused well enough on her eyes to see through them satisfactory to her without her glasses she also can adjust her dslr viewfinder enough for her eye condition so maybe if you have a DSLR you can see the experience of a focusing eyepiece. So I’m probably not the best one to speak on that but that’s my experience with them and glasses. Also one of the nice things is when focusing because my eyes are different my right eye is more blurry, I focus using the main focus knob to the nonadjustable eye then I focus the adjustable eyepiece so even though my eyes are different, it’s adequately balanced and clear enough. I hope that helps. If I was on the fence which I was I went to my local REI sporting good store and they were very helpful, explanatory and were willing to show me how to operate them and get them focused to my eyeballs.
@RoigRivera

@alexsystems2001
4 жыл бұрын
Reel500 thank you! I can understand that. That’s why I wanted to post both so people can see what I can see. If I am looking for bargain binoculars with a lifetime warranty that aren’t bad to bring on vacations, or something cheap to buy to bring whale watching one, aculon, if improved optical precision, brighter optics due to better lenses and coatings, waterproofing, compact size and such are a priority and budget isn’t a huge deal, definitely the Monarch, but if money wasn’t a big deal Swarovski or Zeiss would be an alternative choice. Best example, I got a pair of aculon for my Mom, maybe twice a year she would use her binoculars, when we did the Piedras Blancas lighthouse tour she was thrilled to have them, she’s not going hiking through humid jungles. She brought them on our road trip last year and used them at Mt. Rushmore, Old Faithful and such as well as at places like Zion national park.

Thank you for the comment, I think it’s all down to personal preference, I don’t know how effective either of these are for truly stargazing. If I was really into the night sky I would invest in a telescope. If I was just looking for something to throw in the trunk of my car for trips and things maybe see what’s at a hilltop or the details on Mt Rushmore I would go with the cheaper ones. If I was hiking and camping and going to be doing some rough terrain stuff where they were exposed to a lot of rain or water definitely the Monarch. If I didn’t care about budget then I would pick the best most expensive one. The optical coatings are better the size is more compact, the near focusing distance is closer they are lighter. I hope that makes sense

Which one to buy, Nikon 7x50 or 8x42? Why? TIA
@alexsystems2001
3 жыл бұрын
I dunno what TIA is but I’ll try to give my opinion and I hope it helps. Between the two I’m not sure what your use is or which line of binocular you are considering. However the 7X50 it’s magnification power of 7 and the 8X42 is magnified by 8. So the 8X42 should get you closer to whatever you are looking at. However if you get time to go into a store and put your hands on a bunch of binoculars the second number really matters a lot for the amount of light let in. For example if they have like compact 10X25 binoculars and you look through them the room will appear darker if you look through a 10x50 the room will appear brighter. So if I was looking for something to be the brightest maybe if my binoculars were for inspecting insides of industrial buildings or outdoors in low light looking at things closer 7x50 would probably be great but if I was outdoors mostly and had ok light and wanted to do sightseeing I think the slightly extra reach of the 8X42 would be nicer and I think the 50 and 42 are really pretty close in terms of light that you probably would be hard to tell but you’ll definitely notice the magnification difference. I tend to prefer the extra reach so me personally I wouldn’t mind the 8x42 for MOST situations. The 7x50 seems a little more specific to a need I also think the 7x50 might be a little bulkier with the 50 and not be as pleasant to carry with you. Again this is just my opinion, I don’t know what you would use it for but I think the 8x42 depending on the model and design is a really versatile binocular.
