Ken Rockwell has always remained above the fray IMHO. He is the guy who got me back into photography in 2004.

10:40 Not only has viewership gone down on (mainstream) photography channels, but on all (mainstream) channels as a whole. It goes back to people being sick and tired of being sold to, advertised to etc. I feel within the next year, people are going to gravitate back toward classic small KZitem Channels that upload for the simplicity of sharing their opinion and NOT because they want a click to their sponsored links or sell the product they are so called "reviewing" because they got it a month before launch.

Most channels have gotten very negative, but I think a big part of the downturn in engagement is because the economy is at a point where photography is just not doing well in general. People that were buying cameras and declaring they are turning pro the next week are also in decline. It's this crowd of content hungry people wanting to get into the craft that seemed to be driving numbers. This segment now has to work two or three jobs to cover rent and bills, and we really have not seen any great innovations that help the entry level market in a while. There is also this revival of film that has stagnated the digital market to a degree. Channels that concentrate on retro lenses, low cost alternatives, and film are holding their own. Most of those are hosted by middle aged men that are just dusting off gear they laid aside 25 years ago when digital cameras finally became a viable alternative.

Photography was in its relative infancy when the Great Depression hit. People could not afford to even get their photos taken and there were no personal cameras at that time. Some of the most famous photos captured were from those times. I fear we are close to another great depression and whatever equipment we have may have to last for awhile. Life is getting harder for everyone globally. If we are to survive we have to get along. As you said, treat people the way you want to be treated. The "Greatest Generation" was great for a reason. The next greatest generation may very well be in the making. I have two new grandkids and its worrisome for my wife and I to see what is going on. When people have to decide on whether they are going to buy a tank of gas vs. food and worse, they sure aren't going to be buying a camera and all the gear, and they may not even have internet because they can't afford a cell phone or PC. Rant over. Glad to see you back Vahagn. -Jim

The whole "Trump thing" was NOT negative. You have a right to feel the way you feel about our country and who you feel is better able to help this country and all its citizens. Jared, and other channels, has had no problem letting viewers know what their political standing is and we ALL have the same rights. This is still America with a 1st Amendment and we still have freedom of speech, religion, political viewpoint, etc. Like Omar often says, it you don’t like the way he expresses his views, his sometimes blunt and direct opinions, or the language he uses, then he says the channel is not for you and to not subscribe. Don’t be afraid to keep it real, on ANY topic, and say what you want as long as it’s done in a respectful manner. If some viewers don’t like that, they can go subscribe to other channels where they’re fed exactly what they want to hear. Other people like me will appreciate and respect your honestly, stay subscribed, and continue to 'like'. 👍

I think what may be hurting these streams would be the crazy camera brand wars and brand bashing. That is juvenile and people are just not up to talking about it. Also, as you are saying, the arguments and personal attacks between members really rubs a lot o folks the wrong way. I don't like it. Some watch looking for a fight for the same reason so many people slow down to see a car wreck, they are just hoping for some carnage. Jeffrey has for the last number of months done a bang up job of keeping that off the stream and it is appreciated. I have talked with several channels through back channel about the calling others out as being something that can not only hurt the person's channel but hurt the photography community as a whole. Good to hear what you are saying here. Well done. I have stayed out of that fray altogether. No dog in the hunt and getting into another person's argument is not a healthy way to live a life.

Yes I just think there were too any of them, and they were too long. And always total rants abut gear/ Its a shame but I do like to listen to medium length videos from pros who know their stuff. Like Vahagan, Matt Irwin and Frames TM
