Hi Chayla, same with me. How is it going now? Have you made photo's? alsoI felt so intimidated and confused by the camera and all the settings. But luckily I found Tom's video :) Thanks to you Tom I feel enthusiastic again. Thank you so much. I will watch part 2 too. Tom, may I please ask a little thing? The screen very quickly goes to black. Is there a possibility to change that? Thank you. I wish you both a beautiful week ahead, with lots of creativity and beautiful photos. Kind regards from Amsterdam :)

You can shoot movies using the inbuilt camera effect presets, which adds a degree of colour correction and so on, but yes, probably most you see have been edited in software afterwards.

Its true a DSLR seems like a step backwards after using a p&s, but keep at it and your pictures will improve drastically. In what way did you feel the lens wasnt acting right? Its perfectly capable for most situations, but has its limitations, as do all lenses. If you were trying to autofocus, then chances are the lens would struggle in dim light. Most lenses would, which is why I tend to use manual focus for landscapes.

In manual mode the shutter speed will be whatever you set it to fast or slow, thats the point of manual mode. You need to know what shutter speed you need to capture the image you want, so you will know if its handholdable or not. If you dont yet know this, dont use manual mode, use either aperture priority or shutter priority mode.There is nothing wrong with not using manual mode, its not some godlike mode that makes you a better photographer. Use whatever mode gets the photo you want.

You need to put the camera continuous drive by moving the small lever beside the mode dial to the 3 squares icon. That's it. The actual Fps will depend on the shutter speed,memory buffer and how you the focus settings set up.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.8 is pretty hard to beat for portraits, or the 50mm f/1.8. I pretty much exclusively use Adobe Lightroom for my editing. If you mean close up as in macro, then the nikon 105, tamron 90 or sigma 105 are all excellent and will double up as a portrait lens too.

@TomPhotoix
Жыл бұрын
Longer the better. I use a 200-600mm with my Sony a9 and still wish for more often. However as your d300 has a dx sensor, you’ll get extra reach, so a 600mm lens will give nearly 800mm equivalent. Either go for one of the sigma or Tamron 150-600mm lenses, or the Nikon 200-500 is also a great performer. If you are are really serious, the Nikon 600mm f/4 is one of the best telephoto lenses you can buy, but it’s very big, very heavy, very expensive and lacks the convenience of a zoom lens.
