I was actually doing some research on this camera (my mom gave me hers that she found cleaning out the garage). I found a site that said there was an N75 that came out right around the rise of digital cameras. Not sure how true it is, but maybe a fun fact!

That sounds about right. There was a bit of overlap during that time, too.

I wish most of these Nikon and Canon bodies didn't have sticky grip syndrome. Ultimately I landed on the Rebel Ti for a lightweight AF SLR, because it has no rubber on the grip :) For a more significant body I do have an EOS 3, which seems to have the same grip material as the 1V, and doesn't get the sticky grip (from what I've read). I tried the F100, but after two "mint" bodies from Japan that had sticky grip, I gave up. Maybe one day an F6 :) By the way David - I finally found the best manual focus zoom - the Tamron 35-80 "01A". It out-performs *every* Canon FD/nFD zoom and matches or out-performs every Nikon manual AI/AI-S zoom. The only Canikon zoom that matches the Tamron is the Nikon 35-70 F3.5, but the Tamron has far better macro capability, is physicall smaller, 25% lighter, and has a bit more reach. I also tested the Tokina F2.8 35-70 and various others. Added bonus, the Tamron is an Adaptall model, so I can use it across systems :) Happy Easter!

Oh yeah, the sticky grip is such a pain. And with many cameras, it comes back, too. Some of the EOS Rebel cameras had such thin grip coatings that once that starts to fail the whole coating can just be cleaned off (same applies to the earliest EOS DSLRs.) That 01A is a fine lens for sure. The early Canon and Nikon standard-range zooms were not great performers (want to be disappointed in a lens? The Nikon 43-86mm AI lens is a particular dog.) Tamron and Tokina lenses in the late 70s and into the 80s were almost as good, in some cases a bit better, than the OEM counterparts. For most photographers of the time using pharmacy or similar development, they'd have been indistinguishable because most of those hour photo shops only used an APS-C-sized area of the negative for the prints anyway and cut out all of the poor corner performance in lenses of the era.

Oddly, my N65 and N80 camera electronics have stood the test of time much better than the three F100 cameras I have owned. All the F100 models eventually bricked. The “lesser” cameras are still going strong!

That's is fantastic, and curious, and you're the second person this week to note that.
