I'd call this a dad's camera for the eye tracking and overall potential automation, but it's not an old fashioned camera given its capabilities. It may be turned "old school" with the FTZ adapter, F-mount AI-S (and other glass) and a little tuning to shooting . . . in the manner one likes. As an FM3a owner as well as a Dx lens guy, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to have fun with the homage to the fully manual-FM-camera concept. While enjoying the Z 28mm too, I've been thinking about putting the D70's kit lens (a sharp old zoom) on it too as a little play on my experience with Nikon's in digital recording design and technology for the enthusiast's market.

good to see you back They need to make small crop lenses. Or actually what I really want is a FF version with a great / innovative manual focus experience to use their old AI / AIs lenses...

So the Nikon Zfc is just another camera out there. I bought mine because I like the design, it is in my book a very handsome camera that can even sit on my livingroom table. And as you point out one can get used to the cons. One of the worst being setting the Auto ISO. My shortcut to an acceptable solution is that I configure "My menu" to have the Auto ISO control on top and then I assign "My Menu" to the record button. I find that is a shorter way to set the Auto ISO (for stills) and control can be done while looking through the viewfinder. For my Zfc I found a jjc grip to get a better grip on the camera and I purchased the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95 lens as there exist no native fast primes for Nikon Z in DX format. This lens/camera combination is, when it comes to focal length and depth of field, quite equal to a 24 Mpix Nikon full frame camera with the Nikkor 50mm f1.4 af-d lens attached. Thank you for the review, always nice to hear a second opinion.

There are some good f1.4 primes from Viltrox for this camera (I mean for Crop Sensor DX Nikon - Z mount cameras). I recommend you to check them out. They also have f1.8 version for Full-Frame and they are cheaper than native Z glass. I don't own any of the Viltrox lenses, I have the native Z primes myself and I have not compared them myself either. I have only watched the reviews and they look good enough. Specially the 23mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.4 as Nikon does not have anything like that on their side at the moment (again, for Crop Sensor DX Nikon - Z mount cameras). Hope that helps.

If you don’t like the locking knobs on this camera, you would have hated using the cameras this is modeled off off, the FM & FE lines. You had to life the compensation ring to turn it & push buttons for ISO and to get shutter speed off of the Auto. You definitely shot with more mindfulness back in the ‘70s & 80s.

I know it's been 2 yrs. But this camera works with the z line of lens. Which seems plentiful. What's your opinion

The lock for the modes is normal an the old analog cameras like the Nikkormat EL so I think it’s an homage to the old cameras

You can set the aperture on the manual focus, so it will feel like the aperture ring.

i'm thinking of buying this. i'm a newbie and this camera looks interest me. people say the z50 is much better. i already have a nikon p950 which i got at half the price and love the zooming capabilities. Good high calibre cameras and lens are freaking expensive so for budgets and learning that's all I'm willing to pay since I'm just doing it for learning and fun.

I just got a Z fc yesterday, and just for fun today I slapped my Sigma 150-600mm F-mount with the FTZ adapter on it. Looked ridiculous, but I got some great bird pics with it!

Thanks, it’s an older sensor so I may not do any image comparison videos, but I think it compares pretty well in terms of features and specs.
