Im missing something. I cannot figure how the shooting banks are separate. I have extended banks turned on. Can you explain ??

This is a welcome fix and I hope I can explain. Before 5.0, whatever settings you had for photo mode would transfer when you select video mode. In other words, if you had your Z9 photo mode set for AV, when you switch to video that AV mode would follow even though the last time video mode was used it was set for MF. That's because, for example "Shoot A" would save either one of the other modes, but not both. One of them would have to be saved to "Shoot B". Now with firmware 5.0, both photo and video retain their settings in Shoot A. I have a Canon R3 and I would use that camera most of the time for hybrid work because it would save each mode settings.

Yes, Nikon Z9 firmware 5.0 offers a significant improvement for users who switch between photo and video shooting: Previously: The camera had a single set of menu banks for both photos and videos. Changing settings in one mode would affect the other. Now: Firmware 5.0 introduces separate Shooting Menu Banks and Video Recording Menu Banks. You can customize settings for each mode independently. This means you can set up your ideal photo settings (focus, exposure, etc.) in one bank and your preferred video settings (frame rate, resolution, etc.) in another. Switching between photos and videos won't require constantly adjusting menus anymore.

If it helps, go into the Menu->Photo Shooting Menu (Camera Icon). at the top, you'll see bank A through D. Then moving down to Menu->Video Recording Menu (Video Icon). There you will see the same banks for Video. Now they are completely separate from each other. Changing "A" in one, will not affect the other.

@Living_The_Dad_Life Thank you for the explanation. When I do what you listed here, both sets of banks are labeled the same. If I try to re-lable, say bank A in photo it changes bank A in video. I must have something set incorrectly

@@sleekimagesphotography It appears that Nikon forgot to separate the Bank headers. If you press the ? when your in the Banks, it still says they are connected, that's weird.

I was getting ready to buy the Z8 just for that Border option. I was locking the Focus point position in one of my shooting banks so I could actually find it. Now, I don't need my glasses!

I am totally with you! One tip I have found extremely helpful was to use the RESET option in the F2 menu for the "Sub-Selector Center". Nikon's naming isn't super clear, but what that means is. When I press down on the Joystick on the back (the one used to move the focus point around) it centers it back in the middle. So, when ever i lost it (focus point) I could swiftly put it back in the center! I am going to add it to my tips and tricks video!

@@Living_The_Dad_Life Yes, I have it set that way also but I guess that I don't push it in squarely. I have to put my hand in front of the lens to see if it set correctly. Many times it didn't center (user error I'm sure). I've had surgery on my thumbs so they aren't that good these days.

@@19Photographer76 I feel your pain, about 18 months ago I had my left shoulder tendon decoupled, cleaned and then reattached. It took me almost a year to be able to pick up my Z9 again without pain.
