Thanks for the great review. I’m a Fuji X-Pro 2 shooter, but this Nikon has got me thinking about switching to the Zf 😁

Same here I shoot my professional work with two XT4s and the backup and for fun is my graphite Xpro2 But this Nikon ZF is tempting But I just hope they make a special 50 and 35mm 1.4 just for this camera. Modern lenses look weird on this one and using an adapter for older Nikon Lenses looks bad.

@@Nightshade1881 yes exactly. Either Nikon need to make some lenses with an aperture ring for the Zf, or let third party lens makers, like Sigma release their contemporary line in a Z mount. I'm tempted my the Voigtlander lenses (they look great on the Zf body) but I'd like to have the option to shoot in AF - even once in a while when I need to.

I’ve tried out the Zf with the Voigtlander 40 f1.2 and 50 f2, both Z mount lens and liked how they worked on it. I don’t have a Zf but, I bought the 40 1.2 and am using it on the Z8. I would love to use the Voigtlander 50 f1 but that’s almost as much as the Nikon 50 f1.2 in price and it has no autofocus. 😢 I’m hoping to see some of the Zf’s new features come to the Z8 in a firmware update. The Df was a buy for me however, with the Z8 in hand, I’m not quite in a rush to get the Zf at this point. I do like it but, I’m still not swayed to give up my Sony FX30 yet.

Thanks. I've decided to go with SONY A7C2 with native 85mm instead. Because I found upon further investigation, that the ZF "mechanical" system is flawed. When it conflicts with the software manual, the software takes precedence. And for my way of shooting, they are pretty much useless. lol @@TonyCaptures

It's totally rubbish... in Aperture mode the top Shutter speed dial is disabled! Lots of other weird quirks Not thought out at all well. It's a NO from me.... * There is only full manual OR auto-ISO across all modes. Unfortunately, you cannot set auto-ISO only for P, A and S and have M be fully manual. . * When set to auto-ISO, the ISO dial is not without function, but it works different from what you would expect. For auto-ISO you are setting an ISO max value in the menu along with a default value, a max ISO for use with flash and a minimum shutter speed. Now, you can use the ISO dial on the top plate with these settings to override the max ISO value set in the menu - with a twist. If the dial value is lower than what you set as the max in the menu, the max menu value still applies. If the dial value is higher than the menu value, the dial value applies. So one way to use this with auto-iso is to use a low max value in the menu and override it as needed with the top plate dial. I also think it's confusing AF. But I understand what they're trying to offer here.

@@carldaniel3155 on the Fuji, if you’re in aperture priority, the shutter mode is set to a. On the Nikon you set the mode dial to a. If you’re in aperture priority or shutter priority, you don’t need to touch the other corresponding dial. Not sure why it would be valuable to change shutter speed, when you’re in aperture priority. Makes no sense.
I just received my Zf and was able to take it to a local airshow here in Florida. I paired it with the Nikon 70-180mm and the autofocus was spot on in capturing the fast flying Blue Angels Team. Great camera and i am looking forward to more of your videos on this camera.

I don't know what this obsession with grips means! I come from film SLR's (since 1971) and they had no grip on most until much later in the game! I am left-handed and always hold my cameras by the lens! I was a Canon guy in the film era with 3 bodies and 10 lenses (which, by the way, I still have!) and got into Fuji in 2009 with X-10 so, retro camera styling and dials work perfectly fine with me. I don't like the design on present Canon and Nikon cameras, too curvy, that' why I went with Fuji, call me old-fashioned, I don't care! Zf peaked my curiosity due to the styling but the price with 24-70 F2.8 S lens adds up to $6,100.00 with tax here in Toronto! Fuji X-T5 with 16-55 F 2.8 is about $1,500.00 cheaper!

I just got mine. It matters; I began in the 70s too and shot the FE, Leica and Hassies of the day. You use your left hand to cradle those and the new you can shoot single handed. Early, but I’m digging this camera - it gives up comfort a bit for looks. The reviewers aren’t lying. It might give my middle finger a blister today. Digital is heavier and the scale of the cameras is larger. It’s not the same. BTW, I think this review is accurate.

@charliezaloom6247 The lack of grip seems to be one of the more common (though few) negatives of this camera. I hope to replace my original version Z6 with this camera and would really be interested to hear your feedback. After hearing some of the reviews, I paid more attention to the grip on my Z6 grip (which I like) with heavier lenses. I think the grip will matter to me too. Thanks

@@nivin3I am comparing to Fuji. having been with that system for 10 years and yes Fuji is far advanced when it comes to film simulations and creating recipes and saving them in camera and hence having the ability to choose said film recipe. Does the ZF have that same ability where I can create a custom jpegs recipe at a basic level. I’m sure there’s no time curve or grain adjustments in the Nikon menu but wondering if basic calibrations can be saved. Ideally a LUT as in the Panasonic S5 mark 2 would be ideal

Nikon made a digital camera based on the F type SLR cameras I love. Now if they would only make on based on the S type rangefinders! Nikon! How about a Zs? My Zf arrives today. I'll put it in the bag with my Z8, but carry it alone when I want something smaller and lighter. Grips? My first serious camera was a Minolta CLE, followed by an Leica M4-P. I don't need special grips as I learned to shoot without them.
