The utter joy that David Hyde Pierce put in to Niles calling Maris about this.. and the utter joy Donny also expressed in watching and listening... it was the closest thing to two men in the same room needing to light up cigarettes afterward I had seen on network television at the time...

Indeed. I've often thought a lot of comedy shows do that. Some shows are really artless and it's painfully obvious that they've engineered a plot or scene around a simple punchline. Other shows are better scripted. I would count Frasier as one of the latter.

Lol It was great to see Niles finally get the upper hand, as it always seemed that Maris was going to thanks to the fact that she had high priced lawyers at her beck and call. Donny proved to be the smart, tough shark that Niles needed to equal out the odds in his favour. It's just a shame that hiring Donny kind of backfired a bit because he started seeing Daphne. Just when Niles luck seemed to be changing, it proved to be a bit short lived.

I love this scene, its one of my favorites in the series. Unfortunately...it's also the reason this show can never survive a reboot. Half of all the humor in the show came from solid, well crafted, revenge jokes, taking years to finally reach the satisfying punchline. And one of the brilliant things about the shows finale was, they punch lined ALL of the running gags. The other issue? the other half of the humor came directly from fraiser and friends odd couple interactions with his father, and since he's now dead the show would never work without him.

Even though I'm glad Niles and Daphne eventually got together, this is why I actually felt kind of bad for Donny (even though he did try to sue Daphne and Frasier). Cuz he started off by helping Niles win his case against Maris before he then got together with Daphne. Then of course the rest is history.

It was unfortunate how as soon as Daphne found out how Niles felt (mid season 7) she started to see him differently and want him, but she denied it for a while instead of just being honest. she could’ve told Donny a lot earlier than the day of the wedding (end of season 7) 🤦🏻♀️ and saved him a lot of unnecessary pain and embarrassment.

Best scene of the entire series, and I am watching it for the first time now (22/6/2021). Oh well that's the way it goes sometimes I suppose. Thank-you for the upload.

It was so dirty, the way Maris treated Niles, yet he took it like a champ. And he got time redeemed when he dates and married Daphne AND had a baby by her. Loved Frasier.

Saul Rubinek is always a treat. Underrated actor as far as I'm concerned. Nobody does that smug little creep bit like him, like in "Unforgiven".

So, just in case you think this only happens on TV, let me tell you a story. I'm an ordained minister and about 20 years ago I performed a ceremony for a couple. They were having a "Buddhist themed" wedding and somehow one of their requirements was to be married in the morning "while the hands on the clock are moving upward". As I'm trying to get the vows they'd written(which later I found they didn't write any) the mother of the bride pulls me aside and tells me not to include anything about "if there is someone who objects..." because the father of the bride and an ex-bf were planning to interrupt the ceremony. We literally had to take your standard ceremony and make sure there were no opportunities for them to cause trouble. During the whole thing everyone was worried we were gonna have an outburst. I also had a ceremony on Valentine's Day where the only "vows" that anyone had written was, and I quote, "that *she* will be faithful"......not that *they* would be faithful to one another. Later I found out that the first marriage didn't last a few weeks and I'm pretty sure the latter marriage probably didn't last much longer, if it even lasted the night.

The mid seasons of Frasier burned a couple of great characters. Donnie was one, but I really liked the neurotic surgeon Miles married after he divorced Maris. She should have got way more screen time but they seemed to rush the Niles / Daphne landing...

I always liked the Donnie character and thought it was terrible what they did to him. But Saul Rubinek wasn't the ideal character even though I like his work(he was hilarious in Young Doctors in Love). It was hard to buy that both Roz and Daphne were attracted to him.

I saw this episode last night. I’m so impressed with the lawyer character. in an earlier scene where he’s changing in front of them while they try to tell him the situation and and he keeps going “I’m listening! Keep goin keep going” because he’s channeling his a lot of real experienced, busy. But laid back lawyers
