That was not a hairdo it was a piece of a art on her head.

Interesting :-) I thought for sure that Nina didn't care much for the music of Billie Holiday. She interprets her repertoire very well (of course).

That’s somewhat of a misconception. Nina referred to Billie as a great source of inspiration at the outset of her career (and later in life) but as she got compared to Billie more and more she felt the comparison was another form of pigeonholing in a often racist music industry. She also stated she didn’t appreciate the comparisons due to Billie’s drug use. However, overall Nina appreciated Billie Holiday and paid several tributes to her.

Nina did say at some time, that she knows some folks adore Billie, but that she "can't stand her" - whether she meant her voice her or her as a person, not sure.

It feels a bit strange watching this as I'm used to seeing Nina behind the piano singing, rather than out at the front on her own.

Yes but her presence and grace as she moves about, shows how she can perform as gracefully with or without a piano. She has no fear and you can see it when she speaks or sings. There will never be another like her. The aura she possessed if you watch with all eyes open covered the whole stage. What an incredible woman..

I agree ... I also see Mrs Simone as a classic pianist in the first place. But a great singer nontheless

@@backupoffme8932 Agreed. As soon as she stepped out after those other great singers she completely owned the stage.
