Loved NIИ my whole life. I also appreciate the Sneaker Pimps mention. Such an under-appreciated band.

On the Lost Highway's soundtrack, which this is on, the Smashing Pumpkins track Eye is a banger too. There is a band called Pig Face. The group is basically a super of industrial musicians, headed by Martin Atkins. Trent Reznor does vocals for Suck on the Gub album. Reznor later rerecorded it for the secret track on Broken.

He was so ahead of his time. He made dark & twisted hot before it went mainstream. Everyone discounted him as a suicidal emo alt-rock kid who wouldn't amount to anything but he's incredibly talented musically. Seeing him play backup tambourine & keyboard for Gary Numan like a normal guy was impressive.

one of the guitarists in the video of "Gave Up" is the original guy who became Marilyn Manson before he formed his own artist notoriety in the mid-90s.. it was a weird friendship breakup.. complicated.. but THIS song was part of the David Lynch movie "The Lost Highway" soundtrack.. the video was guided & directed by Mark Romanek.. Romanek directed his next video in connection w/NIN by filming Johnny Cash's cover of Reznor's "Hurt" song.. it was very close to Cash's unexpected death.. Romanek mailed an advanced copy of the video to Reznor, & after news of Cash's death, he watched it in a realm of somewhat shock.. the full version of "The Perfect Drug" is less cut, expanding the song just enough to give it a new breath.. thank you for your reaction!

This is my favorite NIN video, and I love this song and wish Trent would have stayed in the drum and bass world a bit longer. The scene in the video where he stands up and birds fly off is amazing, and the song tempo changes to something downtempo and he brings in his classical piano training is wonderful.

I've got what you're looking for. You should do a reaction to the video "Nine Inch Nails: Gave Up (1992)". First off, it's a live studio performance, from the Manson family murder house, which Nine Inch Nails had turned into a recording studio. Secondly, it has a very young Manson on guitar and backing vocals. Third, Richard Patrick from Filter is also on guitars and backing vocals. It's a killer performance! Video is on the official Nails channel, uploaded 13 years ago but still looks great.

Indeed, Trent Reznor did produce “antichrist superstar” and get Marilyn Manson started. Basically Trent Reznor created the genre industrial.

I had the Honor of seeing this live for the first time back on 9/18/18 at red rocks amphitheatre. the venue is literally in my backyard where I've grown up. It's one song he said would be so hard to pull off live given the crazy drums etc. They just announced a small tour last week, definitely one of my favorite artists and live shows are always amazing. Seen them 13 times.

Sneaker Pimps was a Trip-Hop ( one of the early ones )project , but anything with breaks got squeezed into the Generic term of Electronica back in the late 90s early 00s . The little bit germ of Darker more experimental noises they had growing in their career was from ½ of the writers who went on to from IAMX who still puts out some amazing work both as a musician and as a video director ( all the Gary human videos from the last couple years I believe) Check out kzitem.info/news/bejne/zGtusoaAbKZ6l5w for an easy step into IAMX .

The mashup of this song with Taylor Swift "Shake it off" is really interesting. The director for both videos is Mark Romanek, he also directed Janet and Michael Jackson's "Scream" video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/pZ6svoeKaoSUZpw The name of the electronic drum beat you were looking for is "Drum n' Bass". Its most famous proponents are Roni Size, Goldie and Breakbeat Era. Reznor produced Marily Manson's first album.

Trent created Manson basically. Also, you're missing out on a lot of great music by only focusing on the 90s era NIN (no matter how amazing it is). Some NIN suggestions: Happiness in Slavery, The Becoming, Somewhat Damaged, The Great Below, The Line Begins to Blur, The Lovers.

This was the way of Trent telling Manson I can do better and you're not as creative as I am. And this is electro-industrial. Metal is not gothic. Gothic metal is metal and not gothic. It's metal. We thrive with dark punk oriented music (since goth came from punk and Siouxsie) but we also love EBM, electro-industrial, Darkwave (some Depeche Mode songs are darkwave btw). But please, don't mix metal music with goths. This is not the same music world.

My kids showed me the video, “Closer”, many years ago because they thought it would be funny. 🤦🏻♀️ To be honest, if the lyrics were not so “in your face”, it wouldn’t be a bad song. The beat is rather interesting 🤷🏻♀️ (I’m just an old school 70’s rocker 💁🏻♀️)
