Trent Reznor is the only person on the planet who has written an entire album about BDSM, rape, self-deprecation, and torture that had one of its songs win a grammy, all the while using terminology like "fist fuck", then later win an oscar for the music he made for a kid's movie. I love this man

This was my first exposure to NIN, and this genre of music in particular, way back in 1992, on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. I went a few days later and picked up the Broken EP, and discovered their album Pretty Hate Machine. After loving the Broken EP, the next week I went back and picked up PHM, and loved it, too. Been a fan of theirs ever since, as well as of this genre of music, even now in 2024. I'm about to be 45 years old in a few months, was only 13 freakin' years old when this video/single was released, way back in 1992, which just completely blows my mind when I think about it, and I still love this song, and video, even now in 2024, just as much as I did back then, if not even more so now.

Ministry started the change with The Land of Rape and Honey in 88, and was full force on A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste in 89. Pretty Hate Machine was also 89, but Broken went full on heavy like Ministry with Broken in 92, same year Ministry's Psalm 69 came out. Ministry set the standards, but NIN continued to converge their two different album styles, and we got The Downward Spiral.

I've seen NIN four times live. This is the song that always takes me back to my 17 year old self every time I see him. I'm glad I'm not in that place anymore..... most of the time, we all go there from time to time. I'm glad Trent is on a better place as well from what I've seen.

★LYRICS★ This is the first day of my last days I built it up now I take it apart climbed up real high now fall down Real far No need for me to stay the last thing left I just threw it away I put my faith in god and my trust in you Now there's nothing more fucked up I could do Wish there was something real wish there was something true Wish there was something real in this world full of you I'm the one without a soul I'm the one with this big fucking hole No new tale to tell twenty-six years on my way to hell Gotta listen to your big time hard line bad luck fist fuck Don't think you're having all the fun You know me I hate everyone Wish there was something real wish there was something true Wish there was something real in this world full of you I want to but I can't turn back But I want to

Saw this live in ybor (tampa fl) back in probably either 2004 or 2005. I can still remember the immense heat from the lights that were shined on the audience during the chorus. Deadstar assembly opened for them that night. I would of payed double awesome show by both bands. 🤗🤗🤗

Being a music theory addict, I love that there is still rock with these time signatures. And Wish topped the scales first time I heard it live. It was perfect. Rick on, Trent. See you in htown next time!

Ahhh, vivid memories of 1992/93 listening to Broken and Fixed on massive soundsystem at crazy parties we used to have an LA Punk Rocker friend's trailer, where everyone was on 🍊 🌞, tripping balls, moshing in the living room, breaking furniture and people's noses. Amazing times. I miss the early 90s so damn much.
